  1. More here... http://www.gizmodo.jp/2012/01/12_6.html
  2. It's a long time since I watched 'A Bridge To Far', but I seem to recall at one point a lone soldier on the bridge carrying a black umbrella. Today I was watching 'WW2 in colour' about the Italian campain and again there is a soldier carrying an open black umbrella. Coincidence or significance? (or early onset madness?)
  3. Mentioned again today, someone called Mark apparently. Tankfest also got airtime but I can't remember who was being interviewed.
  4. I remember Mildenhall, and the Starlifter burger bar. Pay in £, get change in $. Ideal as the vending machines only took $! It's the residential areas that I liked. As previously said, just like a little America.

Ah, sorry. Missed the context. :red: Must watch more closely. Must watch more closely. Must watch more closely. Must watch more closely....

OI - Spoiler alert! You should say 'Did you notice that the Clansman CBF is a similar design to the Tardis door control switch?' Good grief. :wow: You'll be saying Santa doesn't exist next.
  7. Thanks for the info. It parted company with it's backactor years ago, can't remember why though. Maybe suits an enthusiastic do-er upper!
  8. This JCB is a little past it's sell by date, DDN Major skid unit and may be of interest as under the yellow paint it appears to be dark green and has part of a plate marked MOD. Any ideas?
  9. Looking at the diagrams, am I right in thinking the axle/hub drive pins should be 5/16" x 2 1/2" roll or spirol pins? (or the metric equivilent?)
  10. Thanks, really wish I still had it. I suspect there's very few left now as - like mine - they probably weren't recognised for what they were. Poor pic but the only one I can find! Interesting mirror arrangement. It came like that, I've no idea why.
  11. I'm curious about a car I used to own. It was a 1978 mk2 Escort, bought at auction unregistered. I was told it was ex-army at Thatcham, and the key tag had 05GX38 on it. I'd love to know where it lived and what it was used for. Any help appreciated. Rob.
  12. As was wifey. On the other hand, I was the only one parked by a busy dual carriageway near the Newport transporter bridge, world carrying on as normal around me. Oh well...
  13. Saw them at Glastonbury last night. A difficult subject for a carnival float but brilliantly done. Audience reaction where we were appeared very positive but mixed, as in not being sure wether to cheer, applaud, salute or silence. Well done all involved, very moving.
  14. A very smart jeep in the vintage car line-up at Glastonbury carnival.
  15. OOeerr!!! Why can't I ever find long grass when I need to hide???:red:
  16. I think you're right with the Fiat, although I'd forgotten all about the Taunus - wow - very similar. I remember about fifteen or maybe twenty years ago there was a tv ad for Argos (I think) which showed something being loaded into a strange squarish looking rhd MPV with a Ford badge on it, long before the Galaxy came on the scene. Some years later we were at a car dealer looking at a creature called a Mazda Bongo and there at the back of the yard amongst the other Japanese imports was a squarish looking MPV wearing a Ford badge. It was a Bongo, but rebadged as a Ford Freda! If I'd had you guys and the internet then I'm sure I'd have found what it was a whole lot quicker. And no, I didn't get one.
  17. OK, new one for you. The new 'Bakers Meaty Meals' ad - anyone ID that van??
  18. Thanks for that. Would you mind if I copied that info back to the other site?
  19. Found this, only one pic but may be of interest... http://www.classicmachinery.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=10737
  20. Get comfy, this could be a long read... Firstly, thanks for the guidance and input, made things a lot easier.:red: Done very little to it as it's been mostly sat in the shed but I get a message that says 'It appears to have an electrical fault'. What has happened is a wire came loose and rubbed on the front axle 'till it caught and wound around the axle. That pulled another wire and so on untill most of the loom was wrapped lovingly around the axle! Funny thing was that as it's a ground switch cutout and all the wiring was no longer attached in the correct manner, the engine wouldn't shut off until the petrol pipe was removed. Anyhow, as a full rewire was just one of several things needed and it's not going anywhere anytime soon I thought I'd start with the gearbox. I took the bulkhead out (yes riveted in, but done by someone who got a riveter for christmas!) and could then see the gearbox mounting bolts which were very loose so that's now fixed. Also clocked the tensioner bolt so I now know where it is when I need it. The rewire gave me the opportunity to remake, reroute and secure all the wiring and dispose of the much altered and modified (twisted, crimped, and scotchlocked) mess of copper that it came with. This one also has an aftermarket electric fan to draw air into the engine bay. Once I got it going it was rubbing on it's cowling so after about an hour of mucking around I put a bit of extra clearance in it. The fan is still under the bonnet and the cowling is in the scrap! Next it's onto the 7 wheel drive. Right 1 is freewheeling. Made a couple of pins from some hardened steel haybob tines and beat them in. Then found the pin that locks the hub to the sprocket on R3 is missing. Found it in the greasy gloop under the drive chain and hammered it back in - problem solved. No, not quite. a couple of laps of the field and the pin is nearly out again so it now has a jubillee clip round the axle so as to cover the pin ends and keep it in place. Question is - the parts book seems to suggest these are supposed to be rollpins but none of the hubs on this one has them. They are all solid pins and appear to be 'interfearence fit'. How are they supposed to stay in place?
  21. If I'd seen that in long grass somewhere I wouldn't of given it a second glance. Not wanting to be disrespectful but the style of it looks like an old Chevvy truck with the cab cut off.
