  1. I should have updated this thread sooner... Just thought I'd share this, my MG2. Made in 1938 and owned by us since 1970, restored 1972. Apart from the tracks, idler wheels and spark plug it's all original, and still sporting it's 1972 paint job. It did the ploughing match circuit from 1974-80 then just a couple of shows a year as other toys were aquired. It's been barn stored for nearly 10 years and was fished out of the shed yesterday as other projects got completed and finally moved out of the way. Cleaned the points, fresh petrol and third swing it was away! It was a nice day, it'd be rude not to take it for a spin... I'd forgotten how much fun could be had at 2mph - Ok, so the mud was deeper than I expected (yes, that is mud on the bumper!) but after all that time in the shed I'm suprised I got that far (and back) without breaking any track bolts. It's now clean and back in the shed, I wonder how long for this time?
  2. Interesting stuff. I have a chain identical to the 'light' chain you described but with a yellow hook. A very useful bit of kit - I wish I had more of them.
  3. Around 3:15pm today there was a large plane flying east to west along the Hampshire Berkshire border, a few miles south of Reading. I only saw it in profile so it must have been very low and appeared to traveling very slowly, the drone of it suggested piston/prop engines and it seemed to have a huge tail in comparison to the rest of it, the fuselage tapering away well behind the tail. I've looked on Flightradar24 and can't see anything in that area at that time. I wasn't alone in stopping to watch it and everyone had the same question - 'What the hell was that?'!!! It looked US WW2 to me but a positive ID would be appreciated. Anyone else see it or know what it might have been?
  4. I believe it was also known as a 'VW Thing'.
  5. Would the RBL have done better maybe by announcing their intention to do this in time for relatives and families to buy their 'family' poppy so they have one with the family connection, as it would appear now that there are three of these poppies with the names of my great uncles on them out there somewhere with little chance of us ever seeing them. They could then sell the unclaimed names on to others who would hopefully cherish and research as you have and learn something about someone who was otherwise forgotten. Does that make any sense or is it too late at night and I'm loosing the plot???
  6. Oopps! forgot the link, thanks for that. http://www.cheffins.co.uk/catalogue/machinery/the-keeley-collection-474-0
  7. Didn't know anything about it 'till it was too late! Looking through the catalogue there were several Explorers, Leylands, 2 Latils, piles of Gardiner engines and spares... Anyone get there?
  8. Fairly sure I met this about a mile from Bovingdon main gate around lunchtime!
  9. Hi, I've posted this pic elsewhere but here it is again to add to your archive. As previous, my father in law always kept this picture in his wallet, we don't know where or when it was taken, or who the subject is.
  10. Thanks for that, at first glance the water looked like a drained canal pound. At least the tank didn't split - that could have been a real crappy job.
  11. So was that a bridge collapse or a reversal into a lock cut? and where?
  12. Sunday morning in Ibiza - the English having returned to their hotels...
  13. Three pages of pics... https://www.thevintagenews.com/2016/01/17/simply-staggering-the-huge-seabees-port-just-hard-to-under-the-scale-of-us-output-doing-wwi/
  14. And having the forethought to take photos and document the procedure.
  15. N reg LR 101 soft top heading east on the A303 this afternoon. Don't think it was original as it managed to pass me at speed on a roundabout without tipping over then roared off into the distance at well in excess of 60mph! :wow:
  16. Hi Paul, Welcome along, I can't help with any of the details you are looking for but an absolutely fascinating project. If I could 3d print models I'd have to move house! Good luck. Rob.
  17. I think fubar describes it better.
  18. Ah, I understand now. I thought at first that it was being suggested I may have witnessed some wrongdoing in the making!
  19. Saw them earlier in the day, probably A34n. The tipper looked to be 'Hoveringham' orange, possibly another Scammell.
  20. I think they were east of Hirsts when I saw them.
  21. A303 eastbound 5 Metcalf lowloaders carrying what looked like a variety of ww2 / cold war vehicles, an APC and an SP gun.
  22. Vulcan over Farnborough at 1420. Fleet to Aldershot road a complete standstill. I would guess upward of 1000 at the west end of the runway!
