  1. Just found this thread, I don't know anything really about Vulcans but it seems unusual that if I read correctly that you have started with two, or the parts of two, as back in the late 70's my Dad had a late friend who had the parts from two Vulcans in a barn in near Arlesford. Could they be the same ones perhaps?
  2. The tractor version were called 'Rotapeds'.
  3. This morning, a Scammell Explorer with workshop or radio trailer (probably a living van but...) M5 southbound at J10.
  4. Just an observation, looking at the pic was it traveling with the barrel facing backwards? I wonder if at just a quick glance it looked like it was going the other way.
  5. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3042699/Bomb-disposal-scrambled-terror-police-alert-dummy-wearing-balaclava-spotted-boat-sailing-Thames-fake-missile-launcher-top.html
  6. I'm starting to think a little refresher course at the local Tech may be in order as well!:embarrassed:
  7. Thanks, interesting stuff. Yes I should invest in some new gear, what I have is best described as family heirloom! Now here's one for the 'Am I being stupid?' forum... Am I reading correctly that Propane and Propylene are the same thing?
  8. Happened across one of these in a, I think, 'reclaimation' yard let's call it in Dorset recently. Looked to be in fair condition in RN blue and apparently a diesel, I can't recall if it had civvy plates or not. I believe it can be for sale. If anyone is interested I can pm details. Not connected to it in any way apart from thinking it needs a good home!
  9. It's been a while since I looked at this thread which gives an idea of how often I might use gas, and went to checkout Adams Gases. They don't appear to list acetylene but do have propylene at what appears to be a reasonable price. So the question is... Would I need new regulators, gauges and torch kit or will my original kit still be suitable and how good is it in comparison?
  10. I was there before 11 and yes, parked over by the officers mess!
  11. Hi All, Thought this may be of interest. This is a photo that my late father in law always kept in his wallet. We think it was taken around the early 50's but couldn't be sure. We've no idea where it was taken, or who the subject is, the only remotely possible identifier being the number on the Jeep. I wonder if there's an identical photo somewhere with my father in law sitting on the bonnet???
  12. Never been before even though it's only 6 mlies from home, made a nice day out. Lots of questions but few staff around to answer. The video showing the Scammell pulling the tank from the ditch, what were the snatchblocks anchored to?
  13. And to you. Flag being flown here.
  14. We had this sort of problem 40 years ago on the vintage tractor show circuit, at that time we gave it up. Then last week this appears... http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/personalfinance/insurance/motorinsurance/11493891/Youll-need-100-car-insurance-for-lawnmowers-says-EU.html The important bit being "The court in Brussels decided that any moving vehicle, on public and private land, should have motor insurance, regardless of whether they are driven on the road or not."
  15. Well, going on the information we have so far, I reckon it would fit on a 1945 MB engine... (I know... I'll go and get my coat).
  16. Need to get some zip into your Antar or martian? http://atsearch.autotrader.co.uk/uvl/popup.jsp?currentaction=searchresults&e2w=97639&sort=5&did=97639&e2w=97639&miles=1500&postcode=ex176bn&configfile=http://dealerservices.autotrader.co.uk/dealers/97639/97639_config.xml&dropdowntype=uvl&csslocation=http://dealerservices.autotrader.co.uk/dealers/97639/97639&partner=UVL&max_records=200&action=searchresults&action=searchresults&action=searchresults&action=searchresults&action=searchresults&id=201408056354461&distance=0 or http://www.southmoorfarmmachinery.co.uk/97639/tractors.htm
  17. I clicked the little button in the top of the ad... It's taken me nearly all night to get rid of the advertising providers name - hyperlinks started appearing in the text body as highlighted phrases! Not having a go as it were, more a caution.:nut: Anyhow, I appreciate the need to raise funds, and as a suggestion a couple of other forums I use are generally free but certain areas ie 'For Sale' and 'Wanted' are only available to subscribers.
  18. There is a good reason for this... Come the revolution they can outrun you!
  19. Thanks for the input, looks like it was Torrens St. As they all seem to be disappearing my next question, and the reason for asking, is where would I get some black police uniform/parade trousers?
  20. I'll have a look at the map later' see if the road names link up with what I remember. I'm sure the road it was on ran east-west with the entrance at the east end - the shop would have been on the north side of the road.
  21. Some years ago there used to be a uniform surplus store somewhere in or near Hackney, a huge place looked like a victorian warehouse in a no-through side street. Anyone know where it was - or still is?
  22. Found this thread on the CMN forum, some pictures that may be of interest. http://www.classicmachinery.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=9515
  23. Apologies if it's been posted before but it made me smile. Rather long but good from about 27 mins in.
  24. Scroll forward a couple of months and most of the hub pins have been replaced with ht bolts, now I have a fuel problem. Started suffering from crud in the fuel. Cleaned the tank and blown the lines out but the environment it gets used in means keeping it clean isn't easy. Got tired of cleaning the carb so I fitted a filter. It would appear that the little pump on the side of the carb may not be man enough the drag the fuel through so I intend to fit an electric pump to help things along. So my question is would a 12v pump from an old car produce too much pressure for the carb to cope with? Would I be better off with a pump from a motorbike? What would the current draw be?
