They would never be granted type approval by the CAA to be flown in private hands. Thats why Bruntingthorpes Lightnings only do taxis runs. The only palce these would likely to be flown would be the states or Thunder City in S.A but that has now closed.

Its painted in drab olive that was made by glasrit. The paint is no longer available. It originally was gloss. But it has had a lot of matting agent added to it.It looks a bit shiney in the picture as i have just applied some WD40 on it with a rag. Its natural look has a slight sheen to it. To be honest its the best paint i have ever come across. The picture was taken last year. And the actual jeep was painted 22 years ago. So not bad really.

The harness is in fact hessien covered.Its not really clear from the pics.Tony was infact making these at the time and actually supplied a loom for King Michael of Romainia. Its been 22 years since the rebuild. But still looks fresh..... This is still the original tub.The "F" logo and GPW is stamped on the gearbox bulge near to where the right side front of the seat bolts to the floor.

Really???. Funny that. My uncle during the war before he joined up worked for the American Red cross in London. And drove Jeeps straight back from the docks after being unloaded.

My brother bought a BMW from him many years ago before his foray into t.v.He hasn't changed a bit.

Comfort wise,it was the H2. It just glided around.The H1 seriously hardcore,and soon took its toll on you.Bashing around over the ruff stuff soon gave me backache.And my neck was suffering a bit. The H2,s trip around the course was just pure comfort.And very capable,which even surprised me.As i thought it wouldn't be able to match the H1.But it managed to go every where the H1 went.There is a fella in the states called Rod Hall who races stock H2,s in the Baja 1000.And pretty succesful he is too.So in practice i was more than impressed with it off road.

I went on one of those red letter day pay and play events today in a Hummer H1.It had some quite challenging stuff. Lots of mud and water troughs,and some very steep gradients.As usual the Hummer didn't fail to impress. All the time i was there i was taunted by the staff and instructors as to if i would be mad enough to take the H2 around.So at the end of the day i asked if i could give it ago.I think they were a bit miffed,as they probably thought i wouldn't want to try it....

Once on the U.S base,regardless of the RAF title,you are on American soil.The bases are leased from the crown. Once inside the fence you are under American rule. And even have there own police force.The permission to fly rule is very bendable to say the least. The 9th SRW Det (SR 71) used to be based at Mildenhall and many covert flights were flown deep over the old Soviet Union from there. Not many bods in the U.S goverment knew what they were getting up to. Let alone notifying the British goverment.

Ambulances were all that were left by then,and a few of the specialist types. The bulk of the G.S fleet were gone by 94.Still a bit puzzled by these so called two that were sitting in the T.A centre in 05.

Well they went past that date of 1990. I think the last major operation the 101,s did was in the Balkans.

A bit puzzled by this one. I was always under the impression that nearly all the G.S,s were out of service by the mid 90,s. And the ambulance and specialist bodied ones soldiered on to about 98-99. A bit surprised today whilst at my cousins(M.O.T station) and whilst talking to one of his workers(Ex T.A) about the 101 and if he ever came across them. He said yes. And there were two at his centre when he left.............In 2005. More than a bit surprised i said are you sure they were 101,s.To which he replied. I know what 1 tonne,s look like. I though they had long been signed off.

I will give her a bell tomorrow. It looks this year with the amount of interest from Ferret owners it will be a bit of a Ferret fest. Makes a change from Jeeps and Champs..:
