  1. Thanks Richard for the link.
  2. Anyone with any ideas on some decent canvas paint. I tried the RR stuff a few years back on my previous 101. It looked great when first applied. But after a few months it started to peel in places. Maybe my prep work wasn't the best to start with. On a lightweight i had some years ago the canvas was painted on that. And it looded great and never peeled. Is there anything better than the RR stuff??
  3. It has nothing to do with the Post Office. the post office is just an agent for DVLA. All applications for RFL are eventually passed back to the DVLA.Who keep records on exempt vehicles. The point has been proved to me on two occasions when stopped in the Ferret. On a PNC check it came back insured, exempt,no tax.
  4. DVLA do know if a vehicle is exempt as a V112 form is submitted back to them when application for RFL is required.
  5. Been talking to someone very much in the know. Who said that TFL draw all there data from DVLA and go by what is on there records. In his words. TFL,Vosa do not have the manpower to inspect every vehicle that enters the LEZ. Its based purely on the tracking of vehicles by camera,s and cross referencing with the DVLA,s database Data of compliance and non compliance is taken from the DVLA database and what is actually recorded on the V5. A vehicle not subject to an m.o.t or plate cert should qualify as being exempt. And there are no lenthy time filling form filling as to why you should be operating or occupation as to why you are operating an exempt vehicle.
  6. Nick. its ok exclaiming NO. But could you tell me how you would do an emissions test on a vehicle that doesn't require a trip to a m.o.t or VOSA testing station.
  7. Thanks for that. Clarifys a lot more. And it looks like i fit in to the list of exemptions. Just a mention. Been talking to someone from a goverment body today. And it seems that this new legislation will be extended further. There have already been private talks to extend this to 4x4,s,Pick-ups and black cabs of a specific age.
  8. Well spent a few hours today trying to get some sense from TFL. They seem very vague as to what, when, and the criteria will actually be whan the new legislation comes in. Just another one to throw out to you. In the list of exemptions. it states forestry and agricultral use. Now i dont know if many of you are aware. But most of these are m.o.t and plating exempt. If that were the case and i had something that was m.o.t and plating exempt. I wonder if that would make the list of exemptions??.
  9. Well. By the looks of it. An RB44 wont be getting any usage. May have to pull the 101 from the classifieds. The RB44 would have been an ideal replacement for the 101.
  10. The cheapest costs are around £4000.We have had quite a few done at work that amount to £8000 onthe bigger Scania,s. To be honest anything over £2000 in conversion costs is not viable for me. Seeing that it will only be used for a few shows a year.
  11. Thats cleared that up then. Time for an LS1 conversion methinks. The whole situation gives credance to the word going around at this years L2B. That it will be the last one.
  12. Some may have seen that i have put the 101 up for sale in the classifieds. The idea was at some point to get a RB44 next year. That was until today when in conversation with Nick Johns, and something that had totally slipped my mind. He reminded me. That an RB44 would not comply with the next stage of the LEZ.Now going through the exemptions on the TFL website. It says military vehicles registered in GB are exempt. It seems a bit vague. As i would have thought it should have read. "Vehicles operated by the crown". Could this be a loop hole in which i could use one??.
  13. Thanks Richard. I suspected they were of German origin. There was a couple of Panthers following behind. Quite small in comparrison.
  14. I was sitting having a drink earlier this afternoon in Spa Belgium. When 25 of these rolled through the town. A lot bigger than the Panther. Anyone know what they are.....
  15. I think you lot have lost touch of the OP,s original thread. He wants a "Wartime" Jeep.
  16. Nah. Its ok. Not really interested in what the French have done.
  17. No they bought what spares were left and all the tooling for production. I know its anal. But they were built using french hands,on a french production line in france sometime after the war. When you conjure up the image of an American Jeep. Its normally of one with a star on the bonnet in action somewhere in Europe or the Pacific. Not one been driven by a fella wearing a beret and a string of onions around his neck.
  18. I'm afraid that argument falls flat on its face. A "Genuine" Jeep is one that is built in the states and not a licenced built copy on a production line in France.
  19. For the life of me. I could never see how the Hotchkiss was priced in the same bracket as a MB/GPW. After all. one is the genuine article. And the other a copy.
  20. Early ones had a key. Later ones a switch. Early one...........
  21. Agreed. As has been said. Thats "prop rumble"Nothing to do with the diff.
  22. Plenty of jeeps here. Remember the bulk of Jeep production ended up in europe. They are more of a premuim over there. Base prices start at around £9000. And work there way up from there depending on condition. They also have a very good spares back up and are well catered for parts wise. You will never have a problem keeeping one on the road.
  23. Go on. Just do it. You know it makes sense. A couple of pics of mine.....
  24. I'm surprised that canvas is in one piece after all those years standing. I bet its like cardboard.
