  1. The American goverment. They really do mess with your mind. And your mobile phone.
  2. Correct me if i'm wrong. But didnt the collection used to be housed at the Tower of London before the move up north??.
  3. Sorry my mistake.I was out with a digit.You are correct.B57.
  4. Never fooled by the RAF signage on USAF bases,as they have a signed agreement with the crown, that whilst operating in the UK,you are in affect on American soverign soil.A point made clear, when my little girl had an accident at Lakenheath earlier in the year.
  5. Are you sure its the U2/TR1?,and not the Canberra??.The Canbera served in both the RAF and USAFE(as the B47).In latter years the Canbera reverted to the recce and metrological role.Dont ever recall a U2/TR1 serving with the RAF.But i would like to be proved wrong.
  6. That incident did in fact make the cover of fly past.I also saw the incident myself. If i remember rightly. It had taken off and done a large circuit, that followed down through suffolk in to essex, then through in to middlesex, before entering hampshire. The turn to the east was made over basingstoke before turning again up the east coast for a high speed run back to Mildenhall.
  7. I have a picture some where taken at Mildenhall,of one of those famous flaming take offs.I've also got some pics of the crew suiting up at Mildenhall prior to a long range recon flight.Loads of pics buried, but i cant be bothered to delve.I must get around to sorting all this stuff out.
  8. You can get bar grips from Dallas Autos.£400 for four.
  9. I've been there.Hope the exhibits are in better condition than when i visited.
  10. I used to see them fly from Mildenhall on a regular basis:cool2:
  11. I beg to differ on the cummins engine. There are many owners in the states of the Ram,that are more than happy with the cummins. And it seems to be doing well in the Jackel. The GM unit in the LR is wasted to be honest. The main thing that killed it in the LR,was poor weight distribution, and its tendancy to eat transmission componants.
  12. Ive always been a fan of the big American diesel,s.The 6.2 GM unit as fitted to the Hummer,or the 5.9 Cummins,as fitted in the Dodge Ram,and now fitted in the Supacat Jackal. Not as refined as the V8 unit in the RR.But so much more purposeful.
  13. SR-71 missions in the UK used to be flown by a de-tachment of the 9 SRW wing from Beale airforce base in California. They used to operate from Mildenhall, where as the smaller and slower and easily maintained(compared to the Blackbird)U2/TR1 used to be flown from RAF Alconbury.I doubt if you will ever see another Blackbird flight from the UK,as the maintainance costs involved with every sortie, were absolutley huge.
  14. Iceberg indeed was the dieselisation program for the RV8.There is an example on display at Gaydon.
  15. A friend of the family, who used to own a small garage in Brixton, used to work on the boat that was at Hendon. He was a marine fitter in the Navy.
  16. I use standard car soap, and in the case of the Jeep.A rub over with some WD 40 on a bit of mutton cloth, after the wash
  17. Lady Burley in her normal surroundings....A night on the lash.
  18. Happy birthday dave.It was my birthday as well yesterday.Got an e-mail from HMVF,but nothing on the board.:coffee:.Oh well.Plenty of messages on my facebook page.
  19. Near junction 10 Brenzett.5 jeeps in convoy London bound. And 10 minutes later a 101.Could they be heading back from Bethune?.
  20. The M5 Allis Chalmers, looks ripe for restoration.
  21. Thanks for the info. When i'm next down Johns,i will post pics up of the Stolly in the restoration process.
  22. I know someone on here through TTM has an old Ward-LaFrance fire truck.i thought these latest offerings might be of interest to you... They were taken at RAF Feltwell by me in july, when i was on the base. They dont have any of the bigger OshKosh fire trucks,as there is no active runway at Feltwell. It serves as a communication and listening station
