  2. What happened to John Presswood?.As i blieve he was the owner of it at some point?.
  3. One of my mates over in Sports car world has always had a fascination with Antars. And this one in particular.Pic was taken at the Enfield Pageant of Motoring and the owner was John Presswood.Does he still own it??.Is the Antar still about. Awaits the arrival of Antarmike.
  4. I was there for the porn film.It was made by Vivid productions.:cool2:
  5. Anyone of here going this Sunday as part of the rememberance service?.
  6. There was a good docu drama about this on channel 4 some months back.
  7. You would have thought then that the RAF would have learnt lessons from the Americans on what they went through during the Vietnam war.they thought along the lines that a air to air engagement could be won at long range. The reality was, that it couldnt.U.S pilots soon lost there dog fighting skills, and the Americans were soon loosing at the rate of 2-1.Hence the introduction of Fighter Weapons School(Top Gun). The initial design brief on the Tornado was for a MULTI role combat aircraft. The F3 was orginally intended to have dog fighting capabilities if need be.Red Flag exercise regularly proved at how inept the F3 was at the air defence role.Even at long range. This was one of the main reasons they were never used in that role in both conflicts. With the job being left to the U.S and the Saudi,s.
  8. I agree with Marks comments. If its seen service in the forces. Then its worth preserving no matter what it is.How many civvi type trucks,pick-ups,and staff cars from the 50,s and 60,s that served in the forces are there around today?.
  9. The USAFE were big users of the Sherpa.go knows what they thought of them, because they were an absolute pile of s**t.Now they dont have an euro trucks or vans in there inventory. Its all Ford F250,s.
  10. The F3 was never a good air interceptor. In regular red flag exercises, the F3 was regularly outgunned and out manouvered against the F15 and F14 opposition.I think its the perception of the aircrafts abilitys during these exercise,s,that allied commanders were reluctant to give the F3 an air defence role in both Gulf wars.
  11. The only time,i have seen a large attendance here. Was on its opening day. When there were a good few thousand. And a few vehicles as well.It was only a short trip for me then.As i was living in Erith.
  12. As Catweazle has already said. This event doesnt get enough publicty. It does need to be advertised more.
  13. The carniverous C5................ The huge loading ramp...... F117A Nighthawk....................
  14. Some nice pics there.Looking forward to seeing more over the coming months.
  15. To be honest.A play station is a good place to start. It might not give you the feel of the track. But it will give you some idea on where the turns are,and how best to hit the apex. Some that were there last sunday would have been best off going down that route. More to follow......
  16. The Nurbergring, can be a very daunting track.13 miles in lenth, that has claimed the lives of over 200 hundred drivers over the years. For anyone that hasnt done any track driving before.Your first lap should be a scrutineering lap.Work out your turn in and out,and how to attack the apex,s.Our first lap round, was with out helmets.Properly giving it some meant the head wear to be donned. We saw too many go out,who clearly had no experiance,of any track.Let alone the Ring. This was the result of someone who approached a blind crest to find the track, went in to an immediate right hander.they hit the Armco, with horrendous results................. Thats cost the owner a lot of money. One £80,000+Porsche turbo. The £1300 cost of the dead lift from the track(i kid you not) plus the cost of any damaged Armco,at 130 euro,s per section. With our time at the ring over.It was time for a small group photo...... Vette after the laps... Group photo... Its now time to head for Spa... And enjoy some more spirited driving..... We finally arrive at Spa and our hotel for the night.... Tomorrow we travel in to historic Spa.
  17. Rick.It really is a great place to visit. The PistenKlausse is steeped in history, and has a great atmosphere. The place is covered in graffiti from its visitors over the years.Including some of the greats including Fangio,Moss,Surtees,Lauda,Hunt,Peters. Anyway. With us still in the paddock. We just sat and waited for our turn to go out...... Me enjoying the company of the prancing horse. One of our groups Ferrari,s....... And enjoying the views... The rest of the group, had a little trepidation,on going out on to the track. As the previous year. They turned up in the TVR,s with RAF roundels on the doors, and Blackpool bombers tagged above it.:rotfl:.It didnt go down to well with track officials. Anyway. The group decided we werent going to get on today. So made the move to our next stop.Which was in Belgium. To say we were gutted was an understatement. It meant doing the trip again the following morning. We grouped at the village of Adenau,3 miles from the track. It was here, that it was pointed out that we could join the track at Adenau.there was no que of cars, and this was our chance. We managed to blag our way past the official, with some cock and bull story that he didnt understand. And we were on.............
  18. I undertook, what must be the best trip of the year last week. When with a group of others,we took on the Nurbergring in Germany, and Spa in Belgium. With the meet set for 12.00pm sat,it was a short trip across via the eurotunnel.Once the other side it was a quick top up,before the journey across country........ I calculated that after the first stop,i could have done the trip to Germany on one tank. But with speeds no lower than 120mph,we were soon stopping again. At 200mls in the next stop was deep in Belgium. By now we are running close for time. And had to be at the Am Tiergarten in Nurberg (our hotel) for 5.30.Once we reach the German border, then its time to open the taps on the Vette, and pick up the pace.Which reached 172mph. We get to the hotel with time to spare. And have made the 400mile journey in 3hrs 45 mins. Its now time to kick back and have a drink or two,or maybe more looking at the state of me............ The hotel and the Pistenklausse restaurant are owned and run by the Schmitz family. Some of you may have seen episodes of Top Gear, where there very talented daughter Sabine can handle a car around the Nurbergring. One thing you have to have in the restaraunt is the steak. Its served virtually raw,on a hot stone, that cooks as you eat it.Top class. Day two and its our time to take on the Nurbergring..... On arrival,we find the track covered in thick fog.Its not until four hours later that the track is opened and the deluge begins. For £400 euro,s you can hire this M5 and driver who will give you a ride around the ring.It must have been some ride.As everyone that returned was throwing up. With a packed track, there was bound to be incidents. And in all some 20 cars were written off on the day.there were so many closures, that it didnt look like i was going to get on.I had made the mistake of buying a Nurbergring sticker before hand. The unwritten rule is,that you cant put the sticker on,until you have completed two laps of the Ring.So with it looking further and further away,it was looking like i was making the 160mile round trip from our hotel in Belgium the following morning to complete it................................ More to follow......
  19. Nice work.I cheated.Here is my in service pic:-D
  20. Some nice pics there. Some of them pics remind me of an irishman that used a fleet of tipper versions of them during the 70,s from a yard in Nursery rd Brixton. My old man always swore by his Albion and Mercedes has a workhorse. He tried all the others,Leyland,Scammell,Seddon Atkinson,AEC.And in his words.Nothing could work like the Albion and the Merc.
  21. I cant believe it.A school that actually wants to give a lesson on ww2 history. When i was at school,it was anything but!!.
  22. I think that is one half of the old kingsway tram tunnel, thats in Holborn. You can see the closed entrance from holborn itself.the other end,is what now is the kingsway underpass from waterloo bridge.
  23. The old man knows all of the area.If i pointed it out to him,i'm sure he would be able to tell.He grew up in Lywood house which is located just next door to the old NAFFI.I have walked the area many times, and can tell you where a lot of bombs hit, including V1-and V2,s.My father witnessed a lot of things during the war. One of the most controversial, was the infamous shooting down of the German bomber over victoria.he was able to correct some inaccuracys over the fate of the pilot Robert Zebbe.Inaccuracys that were even in the edition of After The Battle(Battle Of Britain)Then and now. One story that i can recall. Is the one of an Air raid that had just started. My father was running home up Kennington Lane to get his mum and baby sister. On nearing Lywood house,he heard a massive explosion, and felt a surge of heat.About 500mtrs to the south west of Lywood house, lay three gas ometers. They are located in beefeater place.Where the Burroughs gin distillery is.One of the ometers(which was full) had just taken a direct hit from a 500lb bomb, and a sheet of flame shot a 1000ft in to the air.Fearing the worst,as he approached home,he was surprised to find it still intact. He was even surprised to find that once in turned in to beefeater place, apart from a few broken windows, everything was still in place.Even the caretakers cottage next door to the ometer that took the direct hit was unscathed.Blast can prove to be very unpredictable at times.
  24. Richard that site was in the East end.In actual fact, they could recreate that episode on Burgess park.Just off the old Kent rd.A lot of the area in which the park was built on,was destroyed by ariel land mines. They simply levelled the grass and covered over. All the cellars to the homes are still there.
