  1. Apparently this has recently been 'scrapped', certainly it is no longer there - does anybody know where it has gone?
  2. Robin I have always loaded CVRT forwards, my rationale being that once it is on straight, it is simply a case of reversing backwards in a straight line to unload! Tim
  3. Great pics thanks for posting.... But I also notice it was purchased from Beatties which brings back a few happy memories of annual trips to the Bull Ring branch in Birmingham, usually in the run up to Christmas! I could never afford the things I wanted, and now I can afford the things I want I dont have time...c'est la vie!!
  4. Keep going Larry you will get there! I would not recommend you to buy a tracked vehicle - then you would really know the meaning of paranoia!!! Cheers Tim
  5. I have a feeling at least some of these went to the Huddersfield Land Rover Centre, just up t'road, and were sold for sizeable sums, so I am sure some are still about...
  6. Interestingly if you do a search on Mitchenall Brothers it has recently (2010) been reincorporated, although still remains a dormant company....

Sorry I don't think I am who you think i am ! But then half the time I'm not sure myself!

By coincidence just arrived for a long weekend at llanbedr, find that a walk down the length of the runway is good for clearing the cobwebs at this time of year...!
  10. This is a damned good idea Chris and I nearly went for it yesterday but I dont have the space. If I did I would buy a goodish one as a start point, spend a couple of years doing a slow restoration to get it mint, then wait for a gearbox to turn up, which I am sure they will eventually. In my experience it is best not to buy the first release of something as at that point they will be rare and expensive, but sooner or later the price will come down - mezzies being one of the best examples of this.. I live 2 miles away from David Brown's Huddersfield factory if anybody wants me to enquire about the £58k upgrade!
  11. So very close Bob I have 04FD34.....! Tim
  12. 12.00 x 20 maybe? Hmmm tempting if they are in good nick and proper runflats. Even more tempting if they are on rims, I would imagine they are a bugger to change!!
  13. LOL I was about to say that is exactly what I would have to do! Good luck with it....
  14. Timing should be 19 deg btdc at 2500rpm - BUT make sure you check the TDC mark before you start - I spent ages trying to set mine then realised the flywheel had been refitted 8 degrees out!!!
  15. Assuming you have no spark then it does sound very much like the coil. The best way to check it is to swap it with another, ideally one that you know is working!
  16. Excellent news James! Keep us posted on what you find when you check the plugs. Although you've got power going to the coil it could still be dodgy if nothing is coming out. Also when stored for a while the carb diaphragms can perish, but this should be easy enough to spot. Cheers Tim
  17. A couple of pics from the march which went from Hyde Park Corner to the Cenotaph this morning, followed by a 48 hour vigil at the Cenotaph by some of the vets...many of these guys have great difficulty walking and the police offered the use of their van if required but every single one of them made it. Also Mr Joe Pope of the 14/20 Hussars, ex Scorpion driver and recce man....good luck to them all! https://www.facebook.com/gulfwarsyndrome?ref=br_rs Cheers Tim
  18. James Take the plugs out to make it easier to turn over, cable tie the plug leads out of the way. You should also be able to see what is in the bores. I usually stick a bit of oil down each bore anyway before first start, just to provide some initial lube. The engine to chassis earth lead should run from the front of the block to a threaded hole in the side wall just below the generator - it will be under the big coolant pipe that goes from the heat exchanger to the bulkhead. Starters can and do go wrong on occasion, but I don't see why this should happen just from storage. This feels to me more like a dodgy connection somewhere. Tim
  19. Typically in this sort of deal the actual vehicle cost is a pretty small proportion. I think Latvia only has about 6 ageing Russian mbt's as its armoured force at the moment, so this is quite a good improvement in capability for them, even if a lot of countries would see cvrt as past its sell by date. See the thread on FRES for people's views about whether a 38 ton vehicle is a good replacement for cvrt!
  20. James That is correct (I think!) - it is the smaller of the two terminals. Having said that if there was a problem with the thermal cutout you would not get anything at the starter, whereas you are clearly getting something! Also are you sure the earth is tight and no corrosion on the cable? Tim
