  1. James Theres your problem (or at least one of them). The back of the starter has a thermal cutout switch - there should be a wire from one of the terminals which goes to the inhibitor switch. If you don't have this you get nothing. On mine I think the earth strap goes to the block. Tim
  2. Apologies....wiring diag coming shortly! I dont think the horn etc will work without the ignition on will it. Thermal cutout wire on starter maybe? Also is the fuel pump ticking? It should start off ticking fast then will slow as the pressure builds. Tim
  3. James I will post one up when i get home tonight. You need to be careful with them as sometimes mods have been done/ things wired up incorrectly so just proceed with a bit of caution. What is the particular problem you're trying to solve? Tim
  4. Paul I think for most people it is the weight and whether a 40 ton vehicle can ever be successful in it's stated role of armoured recce. If it can then why didn't they just replace CVRT with some variant of Warrior (they didn't coz it was too big!).. However, what's done is done and they will now just have to make the best of it. On the positive side there might be lots of cvrt spares around soon - assuming they don't all go to Latvia! Cheers Tim
  5. Thanks Vince My plan is to measure the distance from the mudwings to level ground at the front and rear and then go from there. Tim
  6. Cheers all I am not down at the shed for a few weeks but I will have a look and give it a try! Tim
  7. Cromwell? Congrats to you both
  8. Oh David don't get me started! If you google FRES you will see that this has been a debacle which has been going on for the best part of 15 years, and earlier if you take account of previous proposed cvrt replacements. This is what you get when you design a vehicle by committee.
  9. Terry Is it the user manual you are consulting or an EMERS? I certainly couldn't see it obviously in the user manual.. Cheers Tim PS just sent you an email ref your junction box which is en route...
  10. The long awaited FRES cvrt replacement - described as highly agile - it will need to be with a weight in excess of 30 tons..!
  11. In a couple of the pics of my Saladin it appears to be sitting slightly tail heavy. http://hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/showthread.php?45954-Tanks-Trucks-amp-Firepower-2014&p=420416#post420416 The user manual and technical manual both talk about the torsion bars being adjustable, but neither say how or to what extent this should be done. Is it therefore as simple as winding up the rear (and to a lesser extent middle) torsion bars to get back on the level? Cheers Tim
  12. The new baseplate Richard refers to is stamped with the word MARCUS so it should be readily apparent if it has been done. I have a box of carbs somewhere in the back of the garage if you decide you need one, I'm sure I could find a reasonable one. Tim
  13. Great pics. Thanks for posting. Note to self - must wash Saladin for next year!
  14. The Alvis FV Society may be able to help. Mick, Lew and Keith who founded the society are all long time Alvis employees so there is a good chance they would know him. I will try to ask next time I visit but it may be a few weeks!

    Panther!

New toy Richard? Is that you driving?
  16. Hello Alien old chap not seen you around for a while - good to see you back. I was talking to a couple of jock armourers at the weekend who also had nothing but contempt for the chain gun, which was by all accounts hideously unreliable, in large part they felt due to the fact that it was designed to be fed from above (as it is in Warrior and Challenger?), but in Sabre was fed from below so the gun had to pull the rounds up, leading to regular stoppages. Tim
  17. http://hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/showthread.php?37852-Tank-of-the-week-Sabre Hmmm, they seem to think the armour is top secret and that it served in Afghanistan so I'm not sure we'd get a definitive answer!
  18. Paul All the kit is there, and I presume the original intention was that the hybrid vehicle would be NBC, but I don't think they were ever able to get the fox turret to seal successfully, although somebody may correct me on this. I guess it was just easier to leave the kit in it than to remove.... Tim
  19. Sounds like you may be right. Have you had the cam covers off - then you should be able to see if there is a stuck valve? Xmod have head gaskets but I dont know about the valve and piston. I imagine there is a good chance the piston will be ok? Good luck!
  20. Andrew Baker has 00GM60, complete and running and took part in the Household Cavalry Pageant in 2007. I have 00GM70, more or less complete but needs finishing!
  21. A great show, one of the highlights of my year. Seems to get better every year, including the fireworks on Sunday night which were absolutely astounding !
  22. You could pick up some spare ammo while you're there
  23. Stunning work James well done and keep going. I visited Jim while he was doing your turret so can attest to the effort he put into it! I did mine the easy way and bought it after Jon (Fourfox) had done all the hard work... Cheers Tim
