Whilst driving along a single carriageway road this morning with vehicles approaching me at a closing speed in the region of 120mph a few feet to one side, I concluded that if motorcars were invented today we'd never be allowed to use them!

As usual the advice (particularly that given by the AA) is confused as it doesn't properly consider vehicles old enough to not be fitted with seatbelts. To quote from the original DirectGov reference above: [h=3]"If your vehicle has no seat belts[/h] You can't carry any children under three years old in vehicles without seatbelts, like classic cars. If you're travelling with children over three years old, they must only sit in the back seats." Andy

There's a Mk.1 432/30 hanging about as it keeps appearing in assorted films, most recently as a US Gulf War APC(!) in The Manchurian Candidate but also in Salt. Andy

As ever, it's difficult to extract facts from a newspaper report but I think there's more to it than first appears. Aren't the Council saying that he has fenced off more than he needs to ensure safety, and that they've already given him legal avenues that he's chosen not to pursue? Andy -
I've still got an old BR "The Royal Navy" from BRNC Dartmouth back in the mid 1970s and it was pretty potent even then. Nowadays we can't even afford the fuel to leave Portsmouth! :-( Andy

Clive - I absolutely agree about measuring sub-ohm resistances but I wonder if as a first stab a simple continuity test isn't the best approach? These beasties are pretty bomb-proof and the most likely failure mode is overheating through lack of oil. Andy

I hear what you say! In that case, if you haven't done so already check the easy bits that you can do without a pack lift; the throttle linkage under the piano boards and probably most important - the emergency stop cable. Andy
