  1. I was going to say that makes sense, but not just carry on taking links out? Andy
  2. These things can be a real pain, and usually being made of aluminium they have a habit of corroding solid. Even undoing mated pairs can be fun, I've found that a jam-jar strap wrench is a good tool. I always put them back together with a smear of grease as you suggest. If you keep an eye on eBay you can sometimes pick up the proper tools for dismantling the connectors but they're obviously all different sizes. Andy
  3. Having researched this for the Abbot, it's quite interesting. The original fire-resisting aluminium paint to DEF STAN 80-9/1 is more aluminium particles in suspension than a normal paint. You don't seem to be able to buy it any more but Clive managed to find me a couple of old tins. It doesn't fade as such, just gradually forms a dull oxidised surface layer, which has a nasty habit of rubbing off on skin or clothes. When first applied it is very, very shiny! Andy
  4. I was looking at the AESP for the AVRE, which says 96 links when new, condemn at 92. Nothing about different-sized sprockets, which seem a rather odd idea to me anyway - why would you bother? Andy
  5. You shouldn't need to remove the circlip, just unscrew the nut with a C-spanner. Andy
  6. Interestingly my Chieftain manual makes no mention of this at all. Just remove links to the condemnation limit and then fit new tracks. Andy
  7. Interesting that he doesn't seem to be being done for driving without the correct licence/insurance etc. And I love the term "criminal mischief" - sounds like an oxymoron to me! Andy
  8. Methinks the caretaker may have some explaining to do! Andy
  9. Try Google translate on this blog post: http://npf-tanais.blogspot.ru/2012/09/1944.html Andy
  10. I have a full set of manuals including the service EMERs .... Andy
  11. Libreoffice is free and will read Word files. Andy
  12. I didn't say that I don't have an email account - I just don't have an online/cloud one like gmail. The only person I trust with my data is myself! Andy
  13. Busbar, but that doesn't really make sense? Andy
  14. What online email account? :-) Andy
  15. No. Unlike the Army, in civilian use the driver is solely responsible for the vehicle, whether or not there is a Commander present. Andy
  16. I've virtually given up reading "real" books any more, everything is on my tablet including scanned versions of my MV manuals. That said, there's a time and place for everything - sometimes it's far easier to leaf through paper and there are some books (particularly reference ones) that aren't available as ebooks anyway. It's interesting though that my reading has increased enormously. These days I'm more likely to be sitting with the tablet in the evening than watching the TV. Andy
  17. Just to demonstrate, this is me using Tapatalk on a Nexus 7 tablet. It works OK except for some threads which it just refuses to load for no obvious reason. Andy Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
  18. The Star or the Fairy? Now there's a question ... :-) Andy
  19. Just bear in mind it will be a RIF and therefore subject to VCR act restrictions. Andy
  20. All MVs are like this - haven't you ever noticed that the parts take up far more space outside the vehicle than when they're inside? :-) Andy
  21. I've never used them, but Hindle Transport have just put a classified up on Milweb, and as they seem to be based in Bolton ... Andy
