Didn't they remove the crane attachment for safety reasons?
What's the spares situation like, out of interest? I'm assuming that with only a few vehicles built, MOD won't have ordered too many spare parts.

Don't forget that you've only got the command end of BATES/LACS. Each gun had its own equipment for receiving and acting on the messages. That may explain the multiple serial ports, perhaps?

Interesting how one approaches these sort of problems - I'd interpreted it as something special to the landing craft rather than something general that also applied to the landing craft.

That's probably an SAE30 or something similar. Don't overfill the gearbox, that's as bad as under filling it. There should be instructions on the dipstick!

As far as I'm aware there isn't a governor on a Mk.1, that's for the Mk.2s with diesel engines. The gearbox uses SAE30 mineral oil, the same as the engine.

Unfortunately this brings with it the threat of "professional charities" who seem to forget why they are there in the first place. I can think of several national examples. :-(

It's that sort of nonsense that gets everyone tarred with the same brush and encourages the authorities to ban things.
Got to like the idea of a "federal Destructive Device permit" though! ;-)
