  2. there was a government initiative to remove them all from the road many years ago and most seem to have long since dissappeared although I do know of one just down the road from me that was restored and used for a while several years ago after which the owner tried to sell it with no luck so it is now sat in his front garden deteriorating Nigel ps as kids we used to call them pencil sharpners

  10. mitas are a good compromise between look and price ,they certainly look the part and are easy to source,got a set recently for my Matchless and I think they were less than £30 each

  12. being as 2 runs out are planned in the unlikely event of having too many tanks ,could some do one run and the others take part in the second then any vehicles not in use can take a trip down to Maiden Newton Nigel

  16. nice looking bike ,I have to say in some ways I prefer the stripped down no pillion or panniers look and remember panniers were on ly fitted later in the war,biggest tips would be bring it to armour and embarkation next year and join the dispatch riders on convoy duty,you will be very welcome and I am sure you will have a great time Nigel
  17. great pics ,makes up for the fact that my camera battery went flat after 3 photos when I visited a couple of weeks back,we did not get into the ropery but enjoyed the wooden walls exhibition and will definitely have to return as the 5 hours we had was nowhere near enough time to visit the whole site Nigel
  18. when I was in the scouts and our tents were proper canvas we used to pitch new ones in the rain before actually using them as they always leaked at first but after that they were invariably fine

  20. if it is the yard I am thinking of it is close to RAF Benson in the village of the same name I called in there a few months back and had a long chat with the owner who told me most of the military stuff went years back and how he used to cut up cmp trucks regularly

  23. my wife thought I was mad when I bought this book ,but it is surprisingly interesting and contains a wealth of info
