  1. the lrdg chevy is lucky to have survived so well as it spent several years in the now closed Grange Cavern military museum in North Wales stored in a damp disused mine,it goes by the name of Waikaha
  2. cant tell you much about the electronic ignition but I can tell you the 2 wires with the bullet connectors on are the dynamo wires and the item with the 2 holes in is the dynamo part of the mag dyno, these are normally attached to a plug which fits into the 2 holes shown.try googling Sean Hawker for electronic magneto conversion,I know he makes them and may be able to help you Nigel
  3. can you not contact anyone over in St Mere Jack,Andrew Butler at the insgnia shop springs to mind alternatively do you know battlebus tours owner? Nigel
  4. if you mean the one in Codicote I hope so as the yard went up in flames a couple of years ago
  5. I see what you are saying but they are all stored in proper approved cabinets and I keep no ammunition at home so unless the FLO suggests different thats the way they stay
  6. I find it is best to treat deacs the same as live firearms so keep my deacs in locked gun cabinets along with the live stuff which goes someway to keeping the firearms licencing officer in a good mood when he comes to inspect my storage arrangements at licence renewal time
  7. hi Rosie,it was actually you and yours that made me ask about half term not knowing who else would be likely to bring kids,as it happens half term is out for me now as well and undoubtedly it does cost more in half term. much as a 2 day trip is appealing to me and others I think a 1 day visit would be best at the moment, perhaps an early saturday eurotunnel crossing than on to Todt and a couple of other places allowing for a same day return. I dont know how practical this would be for Joris and anyone else travelling long distance but theres nothing to stop those who want to sorting out accomodation and stopping over. The main problem I do see is that battery Todt close mid november although we maybe able to get round this if they will open for a group visit Nigel
  8. being as most people seem to have gone quiet do I assume theres not a lot of interest at the moment? or is it just that only a few have seen the thread?,it would be nice to sort a trip out and I am quite happy to do some organising so if you are interested could we start a list of names Nigel
  9. we stayed at Ivy House 4 times with the previous owners and always had a great time ,it is ideally siuated for the American beaches and drop zones but quite a trek from the British and Canadian areas, there is also a campsite on Utah beach which I have heard good reports about called la Cormorante camping. If you are looking for a central location I would not hesitate to recommend camping Mathilde at Etreham near Port en Bessin we stopped there in 2009 whilst taking part in the Guinness record for most allied bikes together since ww2.It is a nice site with a pool and bar as well as a small restaurant and excellent toilets and shower facilities.I am sure many other members will have stayed here as it hosts many MVT members during D Day anniversaries Nigel
  10. when would be convenient for everyone , for those with kids half term is in october but for everyone else this is a more expensive time to travel, then there is the choice of weekend or week days, personally I would rather do week days and not in half term as I am planning on being in Brittany with family and friends for half term so would prefer week day in early novemberbut this may not suit others
  11. is that atrip someone has already organised or you are thinking of organising Dave?
  12. a coach might work if enough want to go but if mr Ives does decide to come it might be nice if he didnt have to work as he normally seems to end up working and missing out on the fun on forum events,of course thats only my opinion he may love driving us all round for a couple of days.To be honest it is so cheap on the tunnel fo a car and passengers I think a few shared cars would be most economical,I can take land rover disco so would have space for up to 3 passengers Nigel ps another option for a future trip could be east Kirkby Lincs aviation museum
  13. an overnight sounds like a plan when do people fancy going? as far as I know Todt is closd december and january but I will check and transport is obviously cheaper off season Nigel
  14. there have been a few forum based trips over the last few years which have been very enjoyable such as Overloon to the Marshall museum and Liberty park and Uxbridge fighter command control room and was thinking the other day it could be time for another. what do others think? where would people like to go and remember group visits can have the bonus of entry to areas not normally accessible to the general public. I organised the Uxbridge trip which involved a few phone calls ,a few posts on the forum and compiling a list of names for the mod police so there neednt be loads of work so over to you ,where we going folks ? Ill kick off the suggestions with Battery Todt Calais and the V1 sites nearby Nigel
  15. things are starting to look good, soon be time to start bolting bits together which will be a real morale booster Nigel
  16. we both missed that one Barry, does anyone know how it went? Nigel
  17. apparently hte Americans left 2 lvt s parked in the Utah dunes once they had served thier purpose and it is one of these that is in the museum there but I also saw 2 parked in a transport/skip yard on the road between St Lo and Carentan last week ,of course this doesnt mean they have local history
  18. m20 is the only way to go,more available than the Norton and easier for spares than other ww2 bikes ,126000 DRs cant be wrong Nigel
  19. I was talking to someone the other day and they were saying how good Ciney fair is and that the prices are generally better than the big fairs here, paticularly as the pond is getting a better exchange rate for euros currently so was thinking about a visit later this year,Does anybody have any experience of the fair, accomodation etc and would anybody be interested in a forum visit? Nigel
  20. I really thought he was just someone wearing surplus police gear,I thought coppers were meant to look younger as you got older but he must have been the exception to the rule
  21. was the policeman the one in shorts and a police baseball cap? I just thought he was dressed up he looked a bit scruffy for a copper but he may have been the real thing
  22. I was there today as well and was stood by the gates when they opened just after 9.30,cant say as I saw any one really restless or any sign of the police but have to agree about the crackly message and the sweeper being fairly pointless. There were definitely less stalls but also less customers which for me led to some bargains.I didnt wear or need wellies today and certainly the sun and breeze was improving conditions, spoke to Jack and he said quite a number of dealers who turned up earlier in the week had left due to the conditions on tuesday and the (wrongly) forecast rain
  23. roll on tomorrow ,time for a shopping trip, with all the comments around about things being so bad I wont have to haggle the dealers will begging me to buy their bargains"I hope"
  24. isnt Beltring where you get your anual haircut?
  25. but he couldnt find one so has had to rely on Lovejoy help
