  1. Help please. Does any one know what, era or country this vest is, or who may have used it? Chap at Stoneleigh had a few. The cover is a material very close to the 60ptn smock, and the buttons and zip are exactly the same as a couple of my 68ptn. smocks. The label is not very military like at all! A second identical cover label very faded but reads '1974 McG Bros SIZE' ???? (can not read) Have wondered if poss. to remove the liner to look for markings. Very close in weight to my 79ptn's.
  2. Happy birthday mate. Hope you have had a great day and home safe. Pics. of trip? (Sorry late, prob's with broadband)
  3. Had a great day, met Jack in passing. Myself and mates just about kicked out as stalls were packing up! To be honest not lots for us into the 70-80's British, but taking our time and having a real good rummage picked up some real good kit for the collection at 50p time. Did seem to be more post war 50-60's intresting kit about. My best items unissued, good size's 50/60 shirts and WHITE NBC 60's (packaged) kit, 50p a throw.
  4. Sorry if not relevant to the thread, got a couple of pics of a helmet I forgot I have. Hope of a little intrest.
  5. As a matter of intrest I found this cap in a pocket of a British desert smock I picked up. Looks very similar colours/pattern to your Coat cold weather.
  6. Very nice little collection there. Bit far for me to come and have a 'root' through those stores though!
  7. Spent rather a lot of hours very carefully rewiring. Now have sorted all the engine functions, most of the cable's routed and secured, just need drivers side wing refitted to complete. Screen washer, two speed heater fan, fuel gauges. Managed to get the cold start lamp working. It has been a very steep learning curve. Testing circuits, importance of earths and just how dodgy old switches can be. I'm finding I have had to just replace them with new where pos. Struggled to get the heater working correct/intermitent. Fitted a NOS switch, problem solved. Fuel gauge intermitent, prob. those two little fuel tap switches. Compared to again NOS the springs were very week/corroded contacts. Fitted new switches prob. again solved. Yet more parts. Four panel bulbs,£4.40 Set ignition leads, Ign.switch (that was playing up as well) panel light switch, temp sender, hose clips/hose and a good used choke cable. £28.20 Sat. Fuel sender, horn and two fuel tap switches, £44.40.
  8. Also thinking the same! Welcome along.
  9. Welcome, also love to see the collection.
  10. Welcome to the forum from a proud owner of now a couple of Air portables. Love to see some picks.
  11. Just dug it out, found I have other basic colours as well.
  12. Just happen to have in the shed a 1 gallon tin, think dated 60 something. Have to dig out and photo the label for prosperity. Had been painting the house doors with it, thought looked a familiar colour!
  13. Nice bit of kit, got a couple. One came with a s/steel flask. (prob. not orig. to case) Use them a lot when out and about.
  14. Both my AirPortables 79-12v and 80-24v are electrical. Not a expert but told the stablization unit on the back of the gauge, if faulty can cause the gauges to do all sorts of funny things. Just a thought.
  15. airportable

    Scam

    Mate, you sure find them!
  16. Very lucky with my Airportable that with care very few nut/bolts failed to 'undo'. Bigest stroke of luck at a local vintage veh. show a bloke had bagged (200's) sheridized 1/4x1" UNF bolts only. Turned out label had NSN on and Rover! You any idea how many bolts that size screw into captive nuts, partic. on a tub? He had 25Kg boxes of them as well! Cursing I did not have one, £10.
  17. Loads of first class info. here. Sorry dont know how to post link but I just typed 'All charged up' in search box, pressed enter, scroll down and all the posts are there, 1,2,3. (Good luck with sorting, have had same probs. myself)
  18. Thanks for the tip Ruxy. Had got some foam lined up for the job, but the pipe lagging foam is a much better idea. Have realised after today during a little more rewiring that the new loom has no wires for the I/R function. MAY have a look at whats required and make up relevent part of the loom. (still got the old one) On the point of looms, I have used the old one for ref. (was all tagged up as I thought I would be reusing it) Can not believe how many faults, breaks in insulation etc. I have found. Would have caused a load of serious problems and prob. a disaster. Wiring dia. Have found the one in the Ser III (lightweight) users manual to be by far the most usefull, in conjunction with my FFR for ref. Pig and lightweight forum, now that's a idea. Found later in the day my mate had taken a short video on His phone that is rather good of the first 'outing' No ides how to upload/ post or anything, have a go when tec. knowledge available. Instrument panel bulbs x 6 and few connectors. £6.73 Forgot to add I recieved £84.30 for the scrap chassis and other unwanted parts back in the Autumn.
  19. Things coming on a pace at the mo. Day got off to a real bad start with the gales and a Guinea Pig making a dash for freedom! Safely recaptured. Brake master cylinder had been refitted and system filled and bled. Two slight weeps soon sorted. Yet need to slacken off shoes again, rebleed and readjust but all seamed great. Heater sorted and fitted, had to make up the flex hose from the head tap as correct one unavailable, easy made up with two std. Landi. 90' ones. Talking of which while hunting for a piece of tube found another A/P instrument panel complete with most of the switches and chunk of loom attatched, real great help with rewiring. Also found quite a few Landi. complete side light/indicator assemblies in very good condition I forgot I had. Coolant system filled and engine run untill hot, checked for leaks. Drained down and refilled with coolant. BUT highlight of the day. Driven out of the shed under Her own steam for the first time in 13/15 years. A mile stone and really pleased how every thing seemed ok. :-)
  20. I also have a white one, been told poss. Royal Navy??
  21. All sorts of bits and pieces done today. Including a wing especially to put the beer and crisps on for New Years eve. Have a great one everybody and see you all in 2012. Andy.
  22. Hi Robin. In the photo. the fuel pipe hides a second switch the same. Fuel tap turned to driver side, tap operates switch, switch operates fuel gauge to show fuel level in that tank. Same with the tap turned to passenger side. (Still need to be wired in correctly)
