  1. Sorry things stopped working on that post! I had a go and thought that I had sorted the box. Got to admit defeat, a mate has recommended a local firm who do Landi box's. A quick chat to them, if I take the box it sounds like it may not cost too much to have sorted and will be guaranteed. Dont realy want to risk the box given me after fitting all new bearings seals etc to this box. Work progressing on the tub, some rot to sort but looking a good replacement. New master brake cylinder, fluid and other new ignition parts (after melting points/condensor) Dont carry on working when tired!!! £101.50
  2. Things not going quite to plan! Rebuilt the gearbox and just hoped it was going to be ok. Refitted and a test, all forward gears hight/low box great. Reverse! sounds like a gear is just catching caseing other gear????
  3. Yep, it was a bril. day. We hoped to set up drive under camo. display. Weather not good when we arrived so went to the tower for a brew. Returned to find space getting limited, so had to make do with a little scrim. Great pics. Mark.
  4. Hi and welcome to the forum from another Airportable fan.
  5. My thoughts exactly. Shadow screening? is it what I do when the vehicle is scrimmed to hide the space between chassis and ground and all glass and lights covered? Yes I find the public are intrested and want to chat about it and especially about cleaning your boots and eating 'made up rations' and where you sleep. My Landi has now taken second place to the display.
  6. Welcome to the forum from a Airportable fan.
  7. Dont want to get into pro's, cons of camo nets etc. and showing vehicles. Will just say I now take hessian scrim and local greenary as well. Finding folks are more intrested in a bit of correct kit a tent and having someone to chat to about it all. Now got too much intrest, being asked to go to more and more events and offered more room to set up. Have a go Paul, trial run in open space if you are able to find somewhere, but as others have said, it sure can be a pain, worse if taking down in the rain.:rotfl:
  8. Great pics. Mark. Great weekend all round. Will add a few when re-sized.
  9. Looks like I'm not yet up to speed yet then, must try harder!
  10. Lol. The box contained a bearing, carn't remember the make (now fitted) but familiar to what went in tractors twenty or so years ago, and made in France. That full gasket set, I was charged £1.50 plus vat!! The scyncro. unit etc. new old Rover stock. I am very, very lucky with the parts supplier, He keeps finding me first class orig. parts. i.e. the Lucas I/R switch.
  11. Been for more parts today. Gearbox is now totally stripped, turns out to be in very good condition except for the lay shaft and decided to replace first/second synchro.unit, all seals etc and bearings. Picked up two I/R switches, one new, one boxed. Total cost £199.50
  12. Tonight problem found. On stripping the main box, first job is removing the layshaft bearing cover from the bell housing end. Result, layshaft bolt and heavy washer fell out!!!! Sheared off, try to remove sheared remains tomorrow, if can not remove it will mean a new layshaft etc. or replacement box. Must admit I was suprised how simple the main box is, no marking on the gears or synchro units at all. But how do I know what casting wear/damage as occured regards excessive end float under load?
  13. Thanks, it's got to last me untill I'm unfit to drive! But honestly I still carn't believe how a tidy looking vehicle has shown to be so worn out and in need of major restoration to be safe and reliable. Just that old wiring harness on closer inspection has loads of faults, burnt wires and chaffed through spots not at first apparant.
  14. Last quick note. Yesterday I had promised myself to drive the Landi. up and down my drive (even without brakes!) to test/ check the transmission worked. Fist we jacked the vehicle up on four axle stands just in case. Started up, engaged first, declutched, BANG!!! Turns out all gears engaged, drove well and transmission quiet, allthough a 'knock' could be felt through the gear lever. All except that when first and second engaged and clutch released there is this awefull bang. Thought all was going too well. A friend turned up with His son who had ridden in this Landi. twelve or so years ago and remembers there was a problem with the gearbox. No further ado tonight the box is out, and the gearbox split from the trans. box. No metal at all found in the bottom, oil had been renewed though. Sure enough a great deal of play/backlash is between the input shaft and output. Hope to find fault tomorrow, then decide if to repair, but tonight a good used box may have been found.
  15. Just a quick catch up. Most of the major parts now fitted to the bulkhead, steering box, brake/clutch pedal etc. Throttle linkage all sorted. Still not looking forward to the rewire of dash etc. inspite of having 54HG12 to refer to and old loom all tagged up. Picked up at Tern valley event, new Lucas 6RA relay (just in case) £3. UNF boxed NATO nuts/bolts, washers (sizes I had been struggling with) £6. 5Lt Ankor wax, £20. In one or two of my pics. you can see where I have sprayed the bulkhead with the wax between the components.
  16. Thanks Jack! In trouble at work, keeping up to date with things on f/b. Keep up the good work.
  17. Sounds very nice indeed and BSA. Going to try and clean the furniture? If so be very carefull with solvents.:undecided:
  18. From the photo. very very close colour to my 68ptn I use at events.
  19. Hi Shaun. STOP. I would not try to break and strip the weapon before correct conduct is understood. I have Army code book No.71012....Infantry training Vol II for 7.62mm SLR. The chapter and cleaning runs into a few pages. Not at all a expert on cleaning etc. But before removing any part, clean ground sheet. Safety catch is at safe and the rifle is cocked, again check safety is on. Then stripping, cleaning can start. Sorry, to much to type here. If you want a copy of the pages concerned please PM me and will see if I can help. Is your SLR a Enfield one? love to see a pic or two.
