  1. The wheels are very thin, doubt it would of been very good in the mud with its weight and no way of spreading it.
  2. I must admit after not going bang for 60+ years, I would risk it for a photo, defiantly made a mess but credit to them, all done safely and controlled, a lot better than to have risked lives by moving it. property can always be rebuilt. I was under the impression that water was used instead of sand now as it gave better dispersal?
  3. I wonder how long they had to get out as looking at the video, the windows where not protected in anyway, would of been a good idea to cover or at least tape up all windows to stop debris and glass entering their houses. Did make a nice bang tho.
  4. On another side what are people's views on the Russian archaeology when they pull out whole tanks and other objects from marshland, these areas are very difficult if not impossible to identify if they are war graves or not. It is amazing to see the vehicles emerge as if they sank yesterday and to see them restored, but do people feel these vehicles should remain buried and forgotten over time or restored and keep peoples memories alive?
  5. Yes, they are now issued with personal ones molded to their own ears, also a general issue pair that have double end, onside is green for combat/rifles and the other yellow for workshops etc.
  6. 16/08/2012 Jeep on trailer heading towards Germany on A2 i think, sorry can't remember but will try to find the pics to update. Also several jeeps in the Normandy area earlier on in the week.
  7. Nice picture, and think that little tool box probably did every job on that truck, mine is 6ft tall and nearly as wide and brimming, still start jobs and find out i need a tool i haven't got
  8. As the truck was still in the UK chances are the kit is too, do the gas guns have any ID/serial numbers on them??
  9. Great news to hear the truck is back safe, you say he drove it home, was it out of fuel? If not it is strange for it to be dumped for no reason. On the subject of security could a pedal box as used on defenders be made up? also the fitting of a removable key master-switch, all little things that a determined thief will overcome, but things that would slow them down enough for someone owner or not to "re-educate" said individual on the best use for the tools on the pioneer rack:cool2:
  10. Just a small toy then :wow:
  11. When i wrote my D2 off my saving grace was all mods declared as it had a full post crash inspection, most but not all mods picked up, it cost nothing to tell the ins coy of the mods and nothing extra to pay for them, however i was assured if they had not of been told i would of been out of over 10k in total. All my vehicles get insured and anything declared the day of fitment. It beats me why people would run the risk of themselves and their family for the sake of a few quid, yes bills can add up, but your family, kids etc are more important than money ever will be.
  12. All details passed on to good friends in Belgium, they have a lot of contacts around Europe so fingers crossed they hear something. It is a real shame people can not respect how much time and money people put into this hobby, that they often get nothing from other than knowing they are preserving history.(huge fuel bills, great friends and permagrins included). These people ruin it for everyone and if they where found ........................ well i shall not wright how i think they should be found and or dealt with as this is a family forum. Best of luck in getting the kit and truck back, am over Europe in the summer eyes will be on the lookout.
  13. Only 2 and a half hours from Dunkirk, depending on work I am up for it.
  14. On my old laptop I used to have a PDF doc that was the basic camouflaging of a vehicle, this was an American WW2 version. I downloaded it for free so a quick scan of google may bring it up. This any good? http://www.ibiblio.org/hyperwar/USA/ref/FM/PDFs/FM5-20B.PDF Loads of other manuals. http://www.ibiblio.org/hyperwar/USA/ref/FM/index.html
  15. Lovely Spitfire over Bordon way, I do love the sound of the engine.
  16. Looking very nice, wouldn't mind one of these as a project, but swmbo has put a cap on our toy collection for now . Maybe nest year:whistle:
  17. Hi Guys, many thanks for all the advice so far, I don't own this vehicle and am only going off what the paperwork that came with the vehicle said. I do not know about these vehicles in depth but a lot of good knowledge is now being learnt, the repaint was done due to the owner wanting a fresh coat and only had to have the lower door welded to my knowledge, from what I have been told the vehicle was purchased after the war by a UK company as a logging truck, and never entered another armies stock. I am trying to get hold of the chassis number but as i am in the UK and the truck is not I can't just pop down to have a look. Again many thanks to you all.
  18. Hi, thanks, paperwork says 1939 so that is what I am going off, will try to find out the chassis number.
  19. I am looking for what would be considered a good price to sell a 1939 hard cab 353 CCKW, the vehicle is in good condition, and just had a full repaint as well as some work done to the brakes (new hoses etc all round), I am not the owner of this vehicle but am asking on behalf of a friend as they have been offered £5500 for it, however looking on milweb i have yet to see a truck of this age and with a steel bed for sale and i am thinking that it is worth more than the offer given. Many thanks in advance for your advice, Mash.
  20. Any one fancy a project? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/WWII-Wooden-Higgens-Boat-REAL-deal-not-fiberglass-/330759908642?pt=Military_Vehicles&hash=item4d02d3ad22#ht_500wt_1182
  21. I will agree there, i know of one case a certain LSR had a mmlc recovered by civilian contract, well it got back to their yard and the LSR forgot about it. untill a fair few months later the company kindly posted a rather large bill for collection and storage fee's. And they wonder where all the taxes go eh.
  22. A few hours of paperwork for him now.
  23. Welcome in, time for stories and pics.:-D
