  1. Brake actuators shouldn't seize up but the s cams and slack adjusters can if not greased. linines new should be 17mm and replaced at 7.5mm measured from the split line. When tested was the vehicle ladened or chained down?
  2. Wish your friend was my friend hell of a collection crying for attention
  3. There are a number of things this could be: check the slack adjusters are working correctly, there is a 12mm? nut on them turn to the right I think this should ratchet with a resistance of 13lbs ft,if it spins freely in both directions then it is u/a and the wear on the linings will not be taken up via that and the s cam. You can leaver the back of the SBA at the point it is joined to the slack adjuster and should have about .5-1" of travel. they might not of adjusted correctly and several hard depressions of the pedal can rectify this, although adjusting with the wheel in the air and using the slack adjuster is best. Ie wheel in the air free to spin and tighten the slack adjuster until it can't rotate, then back off until it's free to rotate and there is .75-1mm of travel between the shoes and the drum, you can hear when it's ok. Ensure the brakes are properly warm and also make sure the load sim is correct I can get all this information later tommorow. Hope this helped so far anything else let me know.
  4. Welcome in, great to see all these Land Rovers poping up :-D
  5. That is some very talented work, you must have the patience of a saint.
  6. Not sure on the blasting, however in my job I deal with a lot of ####wits that can't drive and often cook their brakes, it's always my pleasure to instruct and over watch as they strip each wheel station down and sand the shoes as well as the inner drum to deglaze them. I would of thought as long as you do not spend too long focused on the one area and just give the inside a cursory blast it should be ok, as for the springs if they are striped to individual leafs and blasted like that then painted and covered in duck oil prior to rebuilding I can't see any problem. I am no expert and stand to be corrected after all this forum is excellent for me building up my knowledge and not just for sharing it.
  7. I would guess at a run flat type device, the c shapes would put the load on the inner part oh the rim and keep the weight off the edges keeping the rim intact.
  8. I shall make sure I come and speak to you, be great to see the conversion in the flesh.
  9. Welcome, what area of Canada are you from?
  10. Welcome, nice collection over the years, glad to see your son has followed in our way of life
  11. Welcome to the forum :-D , great to know people are about to help with all these things.
  12. Awesome work so far, great ingenuity to overcome little problems all so it can be returned to the original spec, yes it's given you more work but it proves that the people on this forum are a talented bunch. For me swapping to diesel in they way you are is great, you can attend more shows and keep the truck history alive and if needed the original can be put back. Great work sir, I hope to see it in person one day.
  13. Not jealous much, nice little collection hiding in the background.
  14. Welcome in, and another land rover to the forum. Pics always welcome :-D
  15. The mk6 was introduced 1989 I believe for N.I being a composite material over the steel turtle shell it gave a greater protection against ballistic threats ( not rounds but metal splinters/frag etc) and an also against impact ie being hit over the head. The mk6 was green in colour and the internal webbing strap at the dome of the head was a green bit of string (many people packed this out with a FFD or similar to improve comfort) the webbing chin strap was green in colour and had a single pop button fastener. The mk6a I am unsure of the date into service however I exchanged my mk6 for the 6a prior to deploying in 2008 to OP Telic 12 The mk6a was black in colour and the internal string webbing strap was replaced by a mesh arrangement which was a vast improvement on comfort, the webbing chin strap remained the same, I am assuming the helmet again had an improved protection ratting however I am not certain. The army now have the mk7 which is tan in colour and vastly different from both previous models.
  16. Welcome aboard :-D Pictures are alway welcome.

  19. Welcome in, what Regiment/Corps did you serve?
  20. As Tony pointed out this is very important to us locals, as a person who had family members evacuated, living on the island and also my pop was sent to Biberach concentration camp, this was down to the Germans deciding he was 'mad' he was running the projection room at the cinema and on Hitlers birthday he decided to give him a present in the form of a huge V for victory sign laid out on the roof with Union jacks. It is very important to keep the history of our islands alive and also to remember the hardship and suffering so many islanders suffered.
  21. We all know it stops off at the best place first to drop off the cream of the crop, then it goes on to deposit the left-overs on that other island we don't like to mention.
  22. Welcome in, pictures are always welcome
