  1. Is that guns sticking out just under the roundal? If so, this installation was very rare so it might help with identification. This mod was tried out on a few Lancs to combat the German night fighters that attacked from below.
  2. Some questions about 'A Bridge too far' film. Anyone help with answers? 1. I understand one of the Army Paratroops froze at the exit and refused to jump. As it wasn't a Military exercise but a film job, there was doubt as to whether he was to be charged or not. Anyone know the outcome? 2. I believe one of the mock-up German armoured cars used was also used as Grubers 'Little Tank' in "'allo 'allo". Is this true? 3. The gliders were just mock-ups for towing only. One was towed too fast and became airborne for a short while. Is this true?
  3. I went to Beaulieu Autojumble last weekend and spoke to Chris Marchant of Vintage Tyres, and he told me they are getting a batch of 10 900x13 tyres in soon, as a sample prior to placing an order for more, and he will contact me when they arrive. Tread will be a road tread style. Anyone wanting tyres, please contact Vintage Tyres. They are a registered dealer and the tyres will be road legal in the UK.
  4. I will be there, sharing half a stall plot with some friends. Anyone passing stall Y271 in Yellow field please ask for for Robert Davey.
  5. The Grey Squirrels round my way eat the Lead from my roof. I promised my Jack Russel dog a steak if he ever catches one......... Also, anyone seen a Black Squirrel yet? I have heard they are starting to spread and are worse than the Grey Squirrels.
  6. Battery box looks like it once contained a 12v battery for radio use. First Aid kit is a standard item for AFV or MT use, and one was carried in a Champ under the dashboard, in front of the gear stick. Used in WW2 and 1950s before being replaced.
  7. Just checked on the MV Entry form (Friday 4th Sept) and it does say Free entry for IMPS members to enter a vehicle and get 2 adult plus 2 child passes, same as last time.
  8. Just checked after the event last weekend. Reading Festival, a Music event, had 61 arrests and 279 reported crimes - and the Police were happy because the numbers were down on last year! How many arrests were there at W&P this year?
  9. The first one is an American P17 bayonet. Used by American troops WW1 and then sold to the UK in WW2 and issued to the Home Guard. If you watch 'Dads Army', this is the rifle and bayonet they use.
  10. I needed replacement rear windows for my WOA2 and went to Caversham Glass in Reading, who cut 2 replacement windows out of laminated glass from an old one as a pattern, for less than £10. I did try Car Windscreen companies first who either didn't want to know or wanted to charge me over £100.
  11. There is a book on the subject. 'The Great Tank Scandal' by David Fletcher. The book is in 2 parts. Also, for an out-dated tank, have you seen the TOG tanks in the Tank Museum?
  12. Just to put things in perspective, a little comparison. This weekend is the Reading Festival. The town is full of teenagers, mostly buying Burgers and Lager. According to the local on Radio Friday, there have been 40 reported crimes to the Police, and 18 arrests mostly for drug dealing - and this was Before the event had started. Last night (the first night of the Festival) I could hear the noise at my house - I live 4 Miles from the site.
  13. I was going to buy some Radios from Argos, but I found they only had a very limited range - a mile at best. Another solution is a Mobile Phone with a Family deal on it. I have a Vodafone contract and I have signed up to 'Vodafone Family' where (for a monthly fee) you nominate 4 or 6 Vodafone mobiles (can be pay-as-you-go) that can make calls up to 59 minutes to each other for free. Could be a solution, and you won't get out-of-range problems. I know Vodafone do this deal, but I'm not sure of the other networks as I'm biased towards Vodafone.
  14. I believe the bombing of Dresden was part of a plan to stop Germany from being able to cause another war. Can anyone confirm/deny this?
  15. I had heard that Bomber Harris disaproved of any scheme that deviated from carpet bombing Germany and the Ruhr, as he believed this was the only way to win the war. Even giving Bomber support to D-Day was looked down on. Can't remember where I read or heard about this - anyone help?
  16. Later Ford V8s differed only in having different Big End bearings (which were not as good as wartime engines). The vertical distributor was a continental (French or German) modification, I beleive. There was one of these trucks at War & Peace this year. If you need an engine, do not try a SUMB engine, as I don't think it will interchange.
  17. I had a problem and so enlisted as a member. Problem solved. Thanks Nick.
  18. If the vehicle normally tows a load, such as a Morris FAT, then the lower weight is the vehicle plus the load it carries, and the higher weight is the vehicle, its load plus the towed weight. If the vehicle does not normally tow a trailer, then you only have a single number. If the vehicle only tows a trailer occasionally, then only one number is OK.
  19. I think a bit of Moderation is needed here. load music and parties up to 11pm or Midnight, but not after. There are families staying on site with Children who want to get to sleep. What do others think?
  20. Single number is weight of Vehicle plus carried Load. Double number is weight of vehicle plus load (Lower Number) and weight of vehicle plus load and trailed load (Higher number). Weight is always rounded up to the next Ton.
  21. Saw this on the BBC News website. Anyone know what the aircraft is they are trying to recover and restore? http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/north_yorkshire/8204829.stm
  22. I had an email from Leger recently. They are doing a Battlefield tour to Jersey next year. Anyone know any more details or are you involved in it? I have been on Leger Battlefield tours before and they have been very good. Website is http://www.visitbattlefields.com/
  23. A few years ago there was a similar incident in Reading to a memorial to the Afgan war in the 19th century to the Royal Berks Regiment. The plaques were replaced but the originals were never found.
  24. Didn't the German Me163 use Peroxide and didn't they have problems with fires? Anyone know more details?
  25. I found the web site and the show is only 2 miles from my home. Good luck at the show. Have you been before? I have been warned by friends that it is for Freelander owners and Monster trucks. Can you post a summary of your views of the show next week, please?
