  1. Does anyone know where I can get Wartime clothes for a 6 to 7 year old Girl? They are for my granddaughter to wear to events so she won't feel out-of-place. Something for an evacuee would be perfect. I can get repro tags and ID cards, just need the clothes and shoes (also at a reasonable price). Many thanks.
  2. I lived in Acton during the 1970s and my elderly Landlady remembered seeing trucks with anti-aircraft guns driving around central London in WW1 when she was a girl. The trucks with guns were trying to shoot down Zeppelins. What she described was like the anti-aircraft truck in the Imperial War Museum.
  3. Just to clarify a point, what model were the American gliders? I know they used British Horsas (with American markings) as well as the American made Waco gliders as I have seen photos of them in Normandy. Might be a possible confusion here? Many thanks to you all for your help.
  4. Sorting EMERs out in the Tech Archive at the REME Museum, I did find several on X-Ray machines. If you know what type of machine you need info on, there might be some info there as REME serviced them.
  5. Thanks for this. The second incident sounds best. I will get back to my Friend and see what he says.
  6. Yes, Spencers wood is correct.
  7. I used to be Editor of 'Windscreen'. If nobody sent in an article about a show, then I couldn't print anything about it. Did anybody send anything to the Editor about Damyns Hall show? If you want an article about a specific event or subject, then write it and send it in - I'm sure the current Editor will receive it gladly.
  8. Just a little levity for this time of year. 1. Do you put a Star or a Fairy on your Christmas Tree? 2. Do you have any MV related Christmas Tree ornaments?
  9. Do you have the original Z number if the WOT2? It should be on the bonnet upper surface or on the rear body just under the tail gate. If you can tell me that, I may be able to help with information.
  10. I've got one of those. I bought it in France in the 1970s. I have heard that they may be British, before the standard Jerrycan was produced - anyone else know any details?
  11. I will be there, but in 'civvies'. Hope to meet up with you on Sunday. Robert Davey
  12. Ian Are you sure it's an H model? With the bellows air cleaner it could be an E model. Looks a good project - keep us informed of your progress. Robert Davey
  13. Yes, that is my Ford WOT2 truck, photographed in my drive in Reading (Reading bus in background). Your mud flap is identical to the ones on my truck, less the Y shaped support bracket. It could be that the REME depot repairing your Bedford used WOT2 flaps where the correct ones weren't available?
  14. Thought they looked familiar - Your Mud flaps are from a Ford WOT2 but are missing a Y shaped part which is riveted on. I just checked on my Ford WOT2 and they are identical.
  15. The WOA2 that was in Beverley is owned by James Shopland, and I have seen it at Weymouth Veterans parade this year with my WOA2. I know of 2 Ford WOA1 vehicles in existence, but only one is currently on the road. Ford WOA2 cars didn't survive for 2 reasons. Firstly they rusted very quickly because they were not painted very well, and secondly they were sold off when the Ford Pilot was around and they were scrapped for their V8 engines.
  16. Have you tried Air Conditioning/Heating dealers? I got some very good fan belts for my Ford V8 vehicles from a dealer in Newbury suggested by the Air Conditioning engineers at work. I had to take an old fan belt and they matched it up, wasn't cheap but very good quality.
  17. I spent a lot of time in the IWM Photo section looking for photos of WOT2 trucks a good few years ago. I used to work shifts so I had time during the day to visit. There is a section that has factory fresh photos of all vehicles and the numbers start KID and you have to ask for these. I found several photos of brand new WOT2 trucks at Dagenham. The other photos are in large binders and are more in years or events. Try looking under Dunkirk or France 1940 for Bedfords. There are also sections on Home Front which might help. As previously mentioned, think obliquely and you might get better luck. Either way, GIVE YOURSELF LOTS OF TIME and take a note book and pen for notes - this will NOT be a quick visit and will take hours if not days to do. The indexes will not help you much, so try and avoid them. Good luck. Robert
  18. Buy the larger Comma anti-freeze 20 litre bottle. £36 (from my local dealer last year) and it lasts for next year as well.
  19. The REME Museum has some records for Wartime servicemen only, but they are brief. If he served in the REME in the 1940s, you might get some luck. Contact them with his full name and number and they will reply. If he didn't serve until the 1950s or later, then you need to contact the MoD. Contact details are http://www.rememuseum.org.uk/research.aspx and there are some pointers there to help you.
  20. Ford 900x13 wheels are different to all others, I've found.
  21. I use a classic 20/50 motor oil in the V8 engine and EP90 in the gearbox and rear axle in my WOT2. The gearbox in a WOT2 has straight cut gears so EP90 is OK. I checked around in the Early Ford V8 club and 20/50 oil is common with most Ford V8 owners. Also, don't forget to check ALL the grease nipples on a WOT2 and make sure they all are filled as it's easy to miss them.
  22. The advert says it's a Ford Pilot, which makes it post-war (late 1940s). I know some Ford Pilot Woodies were produced, as I have seen at least one in the Paradise collection of John Mould. I have never come across a Military contract for Ford Pilots.
  23. You can only find the wartime number if you contact the RLC Museum at Deepcut. Your 82ZA70 number plate is unique, like the licence plate on a car.
  24. I have a British Battledress from Soldier of Fortune. Can anyone tell me the best setting for my washing machine to clean it, please? Don't want to ruin it.
  25. I have heard this said by Andy Robershaw of the RLC Museum, when giving a talk about WW1.
