  1. I have bought a 4 terminal starter solenoid but find I need a 3 terminal one. Can I just ignore the 4th contact or do I need to buy a 3 terminal one?
  2. These crop up at Autojumbles such as Beaulieu. They also fit old Jaguars as well as other vehicles. Make sure the copper tube is OK and not cut, but they can be repaired, for a price!
  3. Are you sure it's Positive earth? Both my Ford V8s are Negative earth and 12 volt.
  4. The first photo is of a 1944 exchange and you need a phone with it to make it complete. The second photo is of an earlier exchange which is a complete unit. My advice is to go for the earlier exchange.
  5. I went to my Granddaughter's first birthday recently. They had balloons around the room, bought from a local party shop, with 1 on them or her first birthday. Can any else see a Swastika in the design or is it just me?
  6. I had 2 Parabikes once. The early one (Double down tubes) was Brown and the later one (Single down tube) was Green.
  7. Jules Many years ago in the early 1970s, I had a Willys Jeep that still had it's wartime markings including a US Shipping note painted on the Right side of the body just after the front mudguard. Robert
  8. A couple of years ago, my Wife and I joined Brooklands as Trust Members. It was one of our best decisions. For £90 a year, we get free entry to Brooklands at any time, plus entry to the members bar where the food is amazing, plus we can sign in 2 guests. If you visit Brooklands more than twice a year, then I strongly recommend you becoming Trust members.
  9. My thought is that Ford might have used an existing tool to stamp out the panel. My WOA2 body is made up of several existing pressings. For example, it has a mounting for a rear view mirror, but one was never fitted in a WOA2. Also, the front doors used a pre-war pressing, and have a cut-out for an indicator arm, but again this was never used on a WOA2. I think Ford's thinking was "Why make a new press tool when an existing one is good enough".
  10. There are 2 different ratios on a WOT2 rear axle. Either 6.83 to 1 or 6.8 to 1, it depends the number of teeth on the crown wheel and pinion. 6 teeth on pinion with 41 on crown wheel is 6.83 to 1 5 teeth on pinion with 34 on crown wheel is 6.8 to 1
  11. That's my Ford WOA2 and it's Not for sale. I do not know of any for sale and there are only 4 in the UK.
  12. I have just come across a piece in an official 21st Army Group history, printed in 1945. In December 1944, the British Army in Europe supplied the American Army with 351 used Sherman Tanks, replacing the British Radios with American radios before shipping them. The Shermans came from stock as well as Shermans in service. Also supplied to the Americans were 25 pounder guns, Limbers and 6 pounder guns. Anyone heard of this before?
  13. Have you tried Peter Oliver at the History on Wheels museum? http://www.historyonwheels.co.uk/ He has a few Humbers including the type you are looking for. Only other one I know about is owned by Peter Gaine. I have a WW2 staff car, a Ford WOA2, but it's not a drophead. It does have a large sun roof which lets the passengers stand up in the back, however.
  14. I found some photos of Wetter at the REME Museum and they also overhauled British Ford Military vehicles in the 1940s. At least 1,000 WOT2 trucks as well as WOT6 and WOA2 vehicles were done there, also they rebuilt thousands of Solex Carburettors for the Ford V8. Also, Jerrycans were made in Germany for the British Army after WW2 with WD marks. I had one once but passed it on. If they were making WD Jerrycans in post war Germany, then wheel production seems possible.
  15. Setting fire to WOTs seems to be common. Have you seen 'Dunkirk' with John Mills? Couple of WOT2s on fire in that.
  16. I think it's the 'New Avengers', but I'm guessing.
  17. Oh My God!! You can't do that to a Ford V8!! Definitely a horror film.
  18. I was beaten to the correct answer!!! I found an EMER referring to this recently, but it was mounted on a steel helmet.
  19. Ford WOA2 with 2 people and dog. Just want to visit for a day as I am staying in the area. Jack - I could be your Staff Car for the day. Travel in style!!
  20. I had a man talk to me about my WOA2 while I was at the event. His Father had one in the mid 1950s and he hadn't seen one since. He had only called in Gaydon Museum on a chance visit and seeing my WOA2 made his day!
  21. I had a look in the REME Museum Tech Archive today and found Comms Installs M470 and M472. They run to 18 photocopies (4 plus 14). You can contact the REME Museum for the photocopies, the contact is Stuart Hepton, but mention that Robert Davey knows about the request. I am going in to the Museum again on the 15th July and can photocopy the documents then and get them sent to you. Cost is normally 10p a sheet plus postage, but contact Stuart and he will let you know.
  22. Alastair As the unit is Ford V8 Commercial, could the early Ford V8 club help? Might be worth contacting them.

    A&e 2016

I'm in the area next year for Weymouth Veterans and already booked into Warmwell caravan site. Could I call in and visit with my Ford WOA2 for a few hours?
  24. I also need an exhaust and silencer, if anyone has another.
