  1. Jon, There was a Revamp of legislation a couple of years back IIRC. They removed a lot of old unworkable, outdated & quite frankly. Useless out moded legislation that has no place in our society today. For example: A Taxi MUST carry a bale of hay on it for Horses! Obviously out dated to sensible People! BUT, it WAS still on the statue books, & to that end. STILL a Law & enforceable tehnicaly! Common sense no doubt to a Judge Etc. But it needed to be revised or removed to halt time wasting in courts by over zealous enforcers of the Law. Who no doubt had a good laugh at some unfortunates who may have found themselves in front of M'Laud. For a petty offense, because thay had upset an Officer in another way!.......:cool2:
  2. However, the Guns the metal was taken from to make the VC Medals are very much visable in the Firepower Museum in Woolwich. It used to be the case that Ordanance (Then R.A.O.C, NOW ROYAL LOGISTICS CORPS) Held a large lump of the metal from the famous captued guns that VC,s are manufactured from. It was a case of the manufacturer, signing for the amount required & then returning the rest to stores. I wouldnt have thought this process has changed. Unless, a requirement from the M.O.D has been to the effect that a reasonable amount have been manufactured & then put in secure, severely controlled storage. Only to be drawn when required for award. Thus, relegating the remains of the sobastpol cannons to reside in the Firepower museum. Anyone have a definate answer?
  3. Isnt Modern Technology wonderfull! (WHEN It Works!)......
  4. What a lovely toy! I have always admired the lines of the Cent. But have never driven them. I guess they are very thirsty too! Nice vehicle, good luck with your restoration. I assume it's an Ex Tim Vibart specimin?
  5. Not entirely sure about this but. Wouldnt that be a breach of the Data Protection Act? To that end, DVLA would be open to being sued?...............Just a thought.
  6. Also, one has a webbing strap handle, the other has a metal folding version. I think the MKII was dropped in favour of the brown canvas 6 mag bag carrier version. This was onbviously a lot cheaper & quicker to manufacture. I had a couple at one time, but I dont now. I haventseen any for years & belive they are quite scarce nowadays. ALWAYS in Mint condition too, I guess that is why they survived. The mint ones never got issued!
  7. The colour form the photo looks like the web material is a bit lighter shade. I have had Indian Manufacture sets through my hands in this particular colour. It therefore MAY be possibly an indian version.
  8. It would seem the schooling in the Lagos area is improving! Very inovative, though Rubbish! I emailed them asking what thier Policy was towards defence? they replied: 'De man am commin in da mornin to fix de-fence'...................:-D (Sorry, i couldnt resist it! Please forgive me!)
  9. Good Luck John. Personaly, I think this was a one off!
  10. Mike, Just been watching another episode of 'Most Haunted' the other evening. You had better watch out, some of the things they have expirienced 'Lurking in the Attic'. Were indeed, NOT very nice!...................:-D
  11. QOUTE: I remember it was in front of one of the largest Ammo depots in GDR, some Ordnance bods might have been based there. Anyone else been there? gary Just added - found info here http://baor-locations.co.uk/PinewoodCamp.aspx Gary, THE largest Ammo dump was 3 B.A.D, Bracht. Not too far from The Dutch Border. (My Old Man was Armourer SGT there on one posting!) Sadly, LONG disbanded & the site cleared. :-(
  12. Skoda launched it's new Eco Friendly car to the open Market!..........
  13. He already shares a lot with this forum John!....
  14. They are both Buffered mounts for the GPMG L7A2. The grey one is complete. Both are correct for a series landrover, though you would have to repaint the grey one green! The grey one is an Ex Naval Helicopter version. For a series mounting. They should both be on a 2" x 2" square hollow box secion post. Easy to modify. For a COMPLETE One around £200 would be OK.
  15. And Menden is now sadly,closed....R.I.P. I went back about ten years after i left the Mob about 1992. I went to 50 Missile & saw the gates closed & a chain around the gates. Got out & had a peek through into the camp. Weeds growing up through the Wartime cobbled roads. VERY sad sight & depressing too! It was like a ghost camp!..........:embarrassed:
  16. 'You can lead a Horse to water, but you CANT make it Drink!'.......:cool2:
  17. Harry, A LOT of what we all expirienced camp wise is now gone! All handed back to the german govt. Most have been extensively reworked into office complexes. or accomodation for civviy home owners. VERY sad when you look at some of the websites of former german camps in B.A.O.R. left is our memories!........
  18. Neil, What can one say Mate? There is nothing I can say that will make you feel better or change your sad predicament at this present time! Im SO sorry, I have had elder members in my Family with 'Optical Difficulties', so I can empathise with you. The ONLY thing I know that is a crumb of comfort is. That you DO have friends here on the Forum & also at Shows. At shows, I am convinced there will be any help & assistance that you MAY need at forth comming shows! Keep your chin up Mate, it's easy to say. BUT, dwelling on the problem is not going to help, think as positive as you can. Easy to say I know. But it DOES help. A Good outlook & attitude is infectious & People warm to others like that! Keep us all upto speed Bud! Cheers, Regards: Mike
  19. Hi Harry, RHIENSALEN, Oh just the thought of that ****hole makes me shiver! Do you remember the superb washing facilities in the 'Ablutions' building? You know, the Tin trough with taps (Modern!?) & the ALWAYS freezing water to wash & shave with! Lovely! I believe it was a Luftwaffe Fighter base location on the Area during the War? The whole Area has now been handed back to the FRG & is probably a nature park/ walking area. My best memories of that place were, driving BACK down the Witzendorf Corridor to our own Barracks at End Ex!...........:undecided:

  22. Talk to lee!...........He is restoring a 25Pdr, & has a Licence to cover this item.
  23. Hello Spider, Always thought it an odd thing to do with the light gun. Removing a wheel so you can trav 180 Degrees! You would have thought that in the design stage, a little bit higher & the barrel would have cleared the wheel when rotating & ensuring a VERY Rapid deployment into action! MOBAT is a LOT quicker to get into firing position. But, the backblast flame was an invitation to a suicide party! (HELLO, here we are!) Mobat also a lot easier to work on. I worked mostly on WOMBAT, which was similar, but had a side swinging venturie rather than the convertional breechblock set up. It did however, fire the same round which was an AWESOME sight to behold! :wow:
