  1. I have one at home. If you can wait until the weekend when i get back there I will do some piccies. What measurements do you want, and how accurate do you want the mounting to actually be, just enough to sit a gun on or a fully working recoil mechanism for example?
  2. Hello Mark we met today at Dunsold, welcome and great to put a face to the cowboy

    Coast

anyone see the episode tonight? very smart Bedford QL shown in the Faroe Isles, allegedly one of 300 MV's left behind when we withdrew after the war
  4. gosh - poignant to read that construction workers have actually been killed as recently as 2006. I have always throught the reaction to UXB on building sites in the UK to be the H&S gone mad thing... rather sobering
  5. The only tent I use with my Ferret is the CVRT one - I have two spare poles from the tent itself and these are just long enough to sit on the Ferret wings to hold the shape, obviously the middle 2 tie points fit off the turret. so yes can be done but as we all say, you need extra poles at each end
  6. some might regard it poor taste but ....Essex :shake: - what do you expect
  7. simples - build a garage with a lockable door, no need for CCTV then :-D
  8. Looking forward to that too, not seen any of Fox in service Artic bin looks a great mod! What Sqn were you BTW?
  9. If £12k does not scare you off (a Ferret, sadly, is NOT worth that much yet and that one certainly not - I could add several things to its missing items list) then the same Fox has been listed twice on Milweb now at £14k. A Fox is "worth" that much. I know nothing about it, nor its seller, but the banner advert on the side of the vehicle suggests it might have seen corporate driving / paint balling site use :shake: so possibly why its not sold yet. absolutely the reverse. They are classed as section 5 firearms () so every dealer (who cares about their legal compliance) removes them as soon as they see them. what really annoys is it is easier to remove the mounts than the barrels so that's what they do, but the barrel is the Sec 5 object then again even if you have the mounts and replace with painted beer cans we could have a whole repeated thread about the VCR and replicas.....

    Sumb?

I'd rather have a Landrover 101, but by all accounts Sumb's are Ok more or less equivalents. I know nothing about the specific one you've seen. Good luck
  11. ta Good, there's a K5 on eBay, and I do NOT need another project just now....
  12. thanks Richard he was Pioneer Corps, but his Company Diary only references vehicles twice, once in June 1944, when unspecified vehicles and four drivers were lost (Landing Craft) and then post war in Germany Jul - Sept 45. The post war reference lists the complement as two x 3 ton Austin, two x 15cwt (unspecified) and at least 1 motorbike (used by an officer to do visits). Might be the Austin was worn out coz it was transferred from a unit who had used it up themselves.
  13. was looking though the war diary for my fathers unit while at Kew the other day and in July 1945 it lists the unit returning a "3 ton Austin" to workshops because it was worn out () go on someone educate me as I'm really a PW creature - suggestions/photos as to what Austin please
  14. needle gun the difference to sandblasting should therefore be self evident, one hits paint with sand particles, the other with needles :yay: You will always get a better finish sand (ie grit) blasting. I have a blasting cabinet at home. SLOW but great for small parts. Anything bigger forget it unless you have a road grade compressor and a proper blast kit. I used such as that at Duxford and its a dream, the kit I have at home I used once and gave up (petrol powered 20cfm compressor but its still too small, clears about 1 sq inch at a time compared to one pass across the whole plate with the Duxford set up) IMHO Needle gun is fine for removing paint and rust scale but will never do anything to surface rust so not the solution if you are trying to properly de-rust
  15. correct, contract is with them not Rex, however, ultimately, the budget for W&P is still down to him
  16. I happen to know the contractor who supplied the toilets this year, as the decision was taken not to renew with the previous lot. I warned the new guy what our expectations were and what the actuality of usage would be. His original brief had been very misleading as he thought the toilets would only be used from the public open days, at the time of the tender he had not been told MVers would be on site early and expecting to use them. Originally he not even been expecting to have to service them every day. I will not divulge his contact details, but safe to say he provided a level of service which reflected the considerably reduced fee he was paid - being in the "business" he also knew very well what the previous contactor was paid and therefore that on the reduced budget this year neither he nor the previous guy was ever going to be able to repeat last year's standards.
  17. Mick was mostly a case of not having a big enough spanner than was short enough to fit in the space, crazy angles and tiny movements needed to avoid rounding off the nut. Access improved no end by lifting out the servo - if you have one
  18. correct YES No need PS - Mine was incredibly difficut to undo the connections to the hoses
  19. in their defence they were a friendly enough bunch at W&P last year but came across as a bunch who will really only respond once they know you well (so not yet me!). So no different to most of humanity when approached for help from someone they don't know and aren't being paid by, but in sharp contrast to at least one other I happily name: Richard F  who helps anyone  So yes, its a closed group and is not really committed to running an online business. The "club" side does also depend on how well you know them - a friend of mine (who is not a vehicle owner but is very personable) has been to one of their get togthers, but as you say no formal event last year. There is one this year, see the website and get to know them? Don't forget, some still have dayjobs working for Alvis, so society side fits in around their availablity, ie non availablity - some of them were certainly abroad in a sandy area last year doing a slightly more important job than bits for ex MVs! PS someone has to pay for the forums, we don't all have Jack's largesse
  20. the local MVT group meets 1st tuesday of the month at the Harborne British Legion, strictly speaking you are supposed to be an MVT member to attend groups but it varies with the attitude (and shortage of funds) of each area secretary see here for the area address/contacts and here for the MVT homepage you get an insurance discount as part of the mebership "benefits" - no guarantee you won't cheaper going direct yourself though (apologies to Jack/Lee for my disloyalty :yay:)
  21. you still banging on about this one AG? since the price can be seen by anyone who accesses the shop page then it cannot be net of your membership discount can it? eg I'm no member and see the CVRT oil filter priced at £35, do you see differently? There is no discount option on the checkout page so maybe you just underpay and hope they notice your membership! have you noticed another person has been trying to place an order and got no responses from the relevant person! just face the fact that you have not got what you expected from that membership and move on, I would recommend SIRHC instead, especially as he (always needs funds) will actually deliver on what he promises, always responds promptly and usually deals at a fair price too
  22. don't tell me Jack's truck actually moves, or does it just roll downhill under the weight of all his spare batteries?
  23. ANR stuff no way - far too recent for 1980's (Ferret would never have had ANR as its's more like early 00's kit). After all Clansman itself had only effectively been rolled out to all by early 1980's flasks - on the cusp, crews also did their own thing
