Hi Jon This is a long overdue move and I really welcome it, but could I add my voice to the request you look at personal, rather than vehicle specific cover, since I own more than one "light class" vehicle but do not have a partner so would only ever be driving one vehicle on the road at a time. Perhaps you could use an exclusion on personal cover which limits your exposure but enables me to call you out (hope not to of course) for different vehicles at different times - eg: cannot call out for vehicle B within x days of making a call out on vehicle A???? This might allow us to get there and back to a show with vehicle A (knowing we were covered for that trip) then break down while at the next show in vehicle B? Not that I breakdown a lot of course :roll:

    Fantastic idea well worthy of support but remember most of you on MV insurance policies (especially Roadsure policies) will be breaking the law as you will not be insured for that

  4. I use mine instead of a tent by simply sleeping inside a gore text bivvi bag placed on top of the bed. Plenty of space inside a bag to change and saves all the hassle of putting up tents. The only thing i ahve against these is you may want to use one of the foam bedrolls as well because can get cold underneath otherwise
  5. these guys are VERY good and have an excellent reputation for engineering services and will do any old stuff not just Landrovers (which is their specialism) - why not just see if they will offer any advice to start with, they are very willing to talk on the phone http://www.coxnturner.freeserve.co.uk/ As with anyone who is good they are NOT cheap!!
  6. Frank Apologies for my ignorance of electronics (never a strong point at school as witness when I once fused the entire physics lab!) Your diagram shows tha black wire connected to the CB terminal on the coil yet your sensor unit is now running at 24v (revised wiring diagram) since it bypasses the ballast resistor. However, as we know, the coil will (except during actual ignition) be running at 12v. What will therefore happen if the coil has 24v on one side and 12v on the other? How sure are you that the original coil is still correct for use? I thought the circuit through the secondary winding of the coil is a continuous circuit with inpout via the SW terminal (ie from the ignition switch) and output to the CB terminal to the (orgiginal) breakers which casued the circuit to collapse therefby generating the pulse on the primary winding. Seems odd that we now have 24 v on one side and 12 v on the other yet in the same circuit?

Frank Given that the printed instructions sent out with your B60 unit are completely different to the diagram you posted above am I to take it that the printed version is wrong, ie. you do NOT connect the red wire to the coil, instead you connect it upstream of the ballast resistor. (The black wire is connected to the coil as per the original instructions) Therefore as your revised diagram now shows your unit is designed to operate at 24v all the time whereas the B60 ignition uses 12V once the ballast resistor is no longer bypassed by the ignition circuit.
  8. I have bought the Jolley set up for a B60 and will be fitting it to my Ferret in due course. I'll post a photo and update here if anyone still interested. First impression was hell of a lot of money for a small lump of metal and a bit of plastic! Instructions are rather basic and simply finish with "time the engine according to needs" which is rather annoying since none of the Ferret manuals cover how to time a B60. If anyone can help on that score I would welcome any comments bearing in mind that a blow by blow account which assumes i know absolutely nothing would be preferred!

  11. I use Warpaint from R+R services, I sprayed their Nato Green and Black on my Ferret over 10 years ago and have only had to repaint as recently as 2 years ago. Similarly with the silver inside. Their red oxide primer is very good also provided you have done as much derusting as you have the equipment to do so (ie sand blast if you can). Shelf life once opened is reasonable BUT generally however I would suggest always buy newly made paint, never buy army surplus unless that really is the only thing you can afford.
  12. after training dad in 1940 spent the rest of the war with 292 company pioneers starting with firewatching in Gloucester docks (1941), airfield building (West Malling) and other infills he than landed at 11am on D Day. He would never talk about that other than to say they had to clear a bunker and the occupants had been in the middle of breakfast. His company lost 4 killed and 2 wounded that day - not much compared to the "assault" troops but then again .... (details taken from the company war diary, as I say Dad was silent on it) he reminaed with in NW Euope for 1944 - 45 on typical pioneer work - roads, petrol dumps etc etc. He finished up in Germany obviously but again would not talk about that - other than to refuse to watch any war film made by Hollywood about who won the war!! I was driving the Ferret across the Cotswolds when it broke down, I made it as far as a petrol station who kindly spent 1 hour phoning round recovery companies before we found one in Swindon who would sent the best sized vehicle for recovery (ie a 16 tonner as opposed to a full low load rig). Cost me £400 to be recovered back to London Morale of story - i now have the number of a firm local to me in London offering 24hr service and i carry the Swindon niumber just in case too. I will be investigating the Footman James service also this year as i have heard good things about it - but Roadsure guarentee to undercut FJ's insurance rates so you have to conside the total costs versus piece of mind of the get you home cover
  14. fantastic thanks my dad was pioneers and went from 1940 to 1946 in them (including first wave on Sword 6th June) and kept his 2nd army uniform insignia but I never asked him about the vehicle markings hence my interest is that book still in print? John

Hi steve No I took my Morris C8 GS truck since the 2004 event was the prelude to D-Day show so had to be on topic - there was only one other non living history group vehicle there and they felt the same as I did regarding independnet vehcile attendees Howver, since I did not go last year I will bow to your direct experiences and others reading this should disregard my earlier comments. I may even consider going this year in that case since the trip to Kemble is rather expensive compared to the run down to Farnham which is only 15 miles for me. Cheers John
  16. went to this in 2004. Museum is interesting for a one off visit but the show was really aimed at living history groups and did not cater for individual vehicles that time - the organiser never even introduced himself let alone thanked you for coming etc. It was great to chat to the reenactors and fun to camp with them overnight but the public seemed well out of it and the vehicles were ignored. Hopefully things may have changed 2 years later but we in the local MVT area group skip this one
  17. Pardon my ignorance and point me to whereever if this is old hat I have a Morris 15cwt C8 which i would like to mark up as a Pioneer Corps vehicle in WW2. I think the Pioneers were always an army unit rather than divisional so can anyone confirm this and help with the markings it would use. I want to do 2nd Army in NW Europe so an guessing the white shield with blue cross (RHS or LHS??) and what else??? Cheers John
