Hi All

Firstly I would like to thank all the show organizers and helpers inc Garry, Richard ,Rosie, Mark Harvey and Ian. In my mind this is the Best Show in Southern England. The staff are great, very friendly and helpful, as soon as I turned up on Thursday I was offered help to unload the howitzer and I was then escorted to my pitch, they also asked if I wanted help on Tuesday to reload the Howitzer. You can't beat that for service. The show is friendly, relaxed and always has a great turn out. I'm a Vehicle owner and a re-enactor, If i want to Re-enact I'll go in the Re-enatment field, If i want to park up and have a beer then i go in the vehicle field, people have a choice. To start upsetting people by laying down to many rules and regs then the show dies on its arse

People need to remember. 1. Any show that can stand alone and compete on a bank holiday and survive deserves credit. 2. Its the Queens Jubilee weekend, people have plans and other comiments like street parties etc etc to go to on the Tuesday. Some people may be going to Normandy and combine going to the show before they go to France. The Essex MVT show use to suffer with the same problem on the bank holiday monday in August, people use to go early, but they could of been at the show since thursday ? I don't like it either but you cant stop them, this isnt the Army, its a hobby

Its funny, when i saw you Lee at the show I wondered what you would report about the show and you havent surprised me at all. Eveything you have said is negative. As a fellow organiser wouldnt it be helpful to give credit where credit is due rather then just comment on the bad stuff ??? I have been to BB twice now and I dont like it that much, it has no Character, stalls are poor, Show field is poor. The Good bit is the re-enactors in the woods and the actual Bunker, I go because i belive in Supporting these shows, because without support they will stop.

There isnt a set format for any show and what the organiser's want / like at one show another show may want something diffrent. It pays to have stalls selling something for the whole family, if its all military the rest of the family will get bored and wont come again. £25 for 3 people isnt bad Pay £20 each at T&T and see less than you saw on the Monday at overlord. As a Show organised why go on the last day, you know its been open since Friday, Its a bit like going to the last day of the sales and then moan theres nothing left to buy ???

Thanks again to the Overlord Team, roll on 2013

Hi Stuart

Since you mentioned Bunker Bash I thought I had better reply to what you have written. Nice to know you have at least attended twice, not sure when this was or if it was as public as I cannot recall your name on the database and the only time you was going to attend with your truck and gun soit could be used in our firepower display you never showed due to brake problems so you told me on the phone when I called you on the Saturday, turned out you just went to another show but thanks for your support and honesty.

As for poor stalls at the BB show I am guessing the stalls must be poor at Overlord as well because on Monday (the only day I could make the show) I see GI Joe, Peter Green, Soilder3, Paul Heddell, Div Patch, Green Zone,Bagnells, Colin Voss, which all support our show as well as Overlord.

As for a poor show ground, its different, it’s not flat but its usable and has worked well for 7 yrs now having vehicles and traders in one field and living history and arena in the other along with our excellent woodland area. I do agree with you we do have some excellent re-enactors especially First Allied Airborne with the Copeman’s Sherman firing in the woods this year, also GI44-45, Vickers Machine Gun Society, Russian 2ndGuards, just to name a few.

As for the MVT bank holiday show I was also around during these days and yes they did lose a few vehicles but nothing and the scale I was told went overnight Sunday and Monday morning from Overlord along with near half the traders.

It is a shame that traders and vehicle owners don’t stay and support the show longer and there is nothing that can be done about this other than not inviting them back next year should they go early, this has been tried with another show and was NOT very successful.

I was not happy as I could only go on the Monday as a member of public and had set out early and driven 125 miles to find that half the vehicle and traders had gone and some of the displays that were left just did not care that there vehicle was still covered in a tarp and had a car sat next to it which really does not look good.

R Cubed said that the main days are Sat/Sun, and pack up day Monday, maybe the show should just be advertised as a weekend show because as a MOP had I known it was pack up day Monday I would have stayed at home and waited until next year and saved myself a 250 mile round trip.

Just my views a MOP.

OK - knock it off everyone.

I don't mind people giving feedback - that's all it is, feedback - don't look at it as anything else. BUT I will not have this collapse into a bun fight.

Hats off to any event organiser - if you want pain and stress then organise an event (the pain is worse than child birth).

Doesn't matter who you are or what you do - you will not please everyone all the time. As a HOBBY - surely we should all be helping and supporting each other - isn't this hobby about remembering those who have gone to war? Don't we all share the same values here. Many of us here organise/hold events - information and tips exchange should be going on here.

So calm it down everyone and carry on.

OK Jack! The Kettle is on! :-D All shows are a pain to organise, you never please everybody. The weather over the last weekend had ducks wearing life jackets. If about one tenth of the people atending say good things to you, you've won!

Just got home after eight days working to set up run and clear away show. Unknown to many of you are the hassles we had with the embittered guy ovrr the hedge who had failed to buy the fields last time they were up for sale. He complined about everything from firing the howitzers to the noise of polesfrom 12x12 tents clanking together and tried to turn thevillagers against us

Bad weather forecast for monday and fewer people through gatesdue to HM jubillee celebrations probably made some traders leave. Last day always looks as if exhibits are gone bse many people pack their canvas away ready for travel and big spaces appear.

Boom boom and the rest of the guys eere gutted to leave but they had all come in the one vehicle and with a child ill in hospital what would you expect the dad to do? Just hope babby is getting better and pass on best wishes fromall at SOE

Either we stay friendly and relaxed or lay down rules about turn up and leaving times. How long before our lifeblood, the re-enactors, traders and exhibitors desert us for being draconia

n?

If those who feel that their monday was wasted by seeing only two thirds of the350 vehicles would like to pm me with comments and snail mail address i will send them complimentary tickets for next year as a part recompense for your disappointment

Fantastic weekend, I was only there friday and saturday and it was great...cannot imagine anyone not enjoying the show. Ice cream was great food was great company was great vehicles were great, especially mine..:-D weather was great location was great...cannot think they could do much more to improve it...keep it going boys...I love it and so do all the people I met at the show.

next year I will be taking a load more vehicles, at least 9, as my foden and Tatra will be working and that means I can haul at least 6 vehicles on the DROPS, the Foden and the Tatra, plus the said three makes a total of Nine.

I would like to see a big hill in the arena...maybe a challenge hill...see who can get up or not...not too big just steep...would be a great spectacle and great challenge every day/year...

bet my ural will out climb most anything big out there...except maybe the tatra..

Hi Paul, glad you enjoyed our show..... We did meet at some point, but didn't get time to chat, -I was marshalling the vehicles in the arena displays, (WWII and Post War),... The saracen wheels/tyres I collected from your yard a while back are still safely tucked away!, it'd be good to meet up for a chat and drink sometime.... I liked your collection of vehicles you brought this year..... Nice comments on the show too, thanks....

we left 2.30 mon afternoon mainly because its approx 3 1/2 hour trip back thats without putting kit away in shed as you gotta allow abit of daylight time incase of a problem on trip back to sort it. other than excited guy on arrival about parking it is a relaxed show and the amount of vehicles saturday does speak for itself, jubilee weekend was always going to impact on any show. The old cummins spent £225 of my hard earned money on diesel for the round trip but was worth it if only to enjoy driving in the ruts worn into the A34 back to newbury by HGV"s.

Just watched the youtube vid posted by boomboom, all I can say is I have not stopped grinning yet..:D:D:D

Not many shows you get to see an FH70 we had two there, and both these and my 105 fired what a sight, three Artillary pieces firing as a battery, nice.

This event is not run by an MVT area and without becoming political I don't think the MVT C.o.M would want to hear anything about it except that it had folded;)

I have been involved in helping to run and organise shows for the pass 16 years and agree that you can not please everyone. As a member of the local MVT group and helper/organiser of the Trucks and Troops Show (although stepped aside this year due to organising my wedding) I take huge offence at this comment. I visited Overlord on Sunday (only day I could visit due to work) and I am friends with a lot of the shows organisers etc, before making off the cuff comments, joking or not I suggest you get your facts right!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

STOP DRAGGING THE PAST UP! THESE COMMENTS AREN'T HELPFUL AND ARE USUALLY MADE BY PEOPLE THAT DON'T KNOW THE FACTS.

As said it's a hobby maybe we should all work together instead of poking holes in other peoples efforts and if you feel that something could be done differently then be polite and then maybe suggestions will be listened to, as an organiser I welcome feed back, it shows other points of view and can bring about change for the better.
