Nice T-34's.. Russia prepping for May 9th parade

Recommended Posts

yes we are so keen to dispose and destroy here in the UK. But we dont have the options Russia does i guess...

Exactly.

Nice to see the Russian Army keeping history alive for future generations. Compare that with the UK government and its policy of sell off and scrap everything. Even HMS Victory isnt safe.

its not the army's fault, its the pencil pushers and accountants..they are so stupid hat they lose money rather than making it..they go for the big ticket items such as selling all the army land off for housing redevelopment...great, that will train the army for the future...this country is slowly becoming ruled by mamby pambies, accountants and do gooder mums...

Anyone know if there's a way to watch the parade online (other than waiting for it to appear on YouTube from someone's camera phone)?

If you've got a satellite system, it should be live on most of the Russian channels. Alternatively,it's also shown live on the German-Austrian channel "3SAT", which you can get on ASTRA 1, or online if you've got the right PC-program.

Oddly enough the Gaz 67 flag seems to be that of the comunist Party- it seems to lack the Hammer and Sickle that was on the Soviet Flag  in the bad old days the party flag was only seen on party buildings.

Normally, the Red Flag paraded, especially in front of the massed troops, was the one (or copy thereof) that flew over the Reichstag in Berlin. Recently, they've paraded that (or it's copy) together with the current Russian flag.

The flag that was raised on the Reichstag on 30th april 1945 -repeated for the cameras on 2nd May 1945 was a standard flag of the union of soviet socialist republics ie a red flag with a star and hammer and sickle, as shown in the 2 photos although it is possible that the photo was doctored.

A Red Flag without any logos (star hammer and sickle) is the flag of the communist party -the international.

I Know, but it does seem odd that they're departing from tradition, unless of course the one that gets paraded before the troops is the Reischstag one, and the one in the Gaz67 is, as you say, the party flag. It still seems wierd that a party flag is on a military vehicle (especially from a vitually defunct party) , unless it's the Army flag, and we can't make out the logos on the photos?
