For the little that it is worth, I can confirm that your truck is likely to have been in service in the NVA of the DDR. Because the fitting pictured above (presumably for a rifle) is typical DDR

A "standard" colour is a bit of a misnomer because it is well known that Soviet production meant substantial variations depending on availability of this, that and the other... All Eastern Block colours are only ever approximated with RAL codes in any case. What is commonly said in the Gaz 69 German forum is that the East German green (4 doors background) is best matched by RAL6003 and that the Soviet green (2 doors foreground) is best matched by RAL6014. But seriously... the Soviet could not manage to clothe their soldiers in the same shade of browny green, let alone paint their vehicles...

Once again a most enjoyable event. The military contingent comprised two Gaz 69 A (one is mine ); one Gaz 46; one Uaz 469 and one Trabikübel.

Very nice indeed! Congratulations! I know that you are unlikely to care... but for your information... your vehicle bears the insignia of the Border Guards (Grenztruppen). In the DDR only the GT, the Bereitschaftpolizei (riot police) and the Stasi Wachregiment had the Fug. The Army had the BRDM2 or SPW40P2 as the official nomenclature had it.

It was indeed a great weekend and the organisers should be amply congratulated Elvington is always the first show of the season for me and a firm favourite as all the fencing makes for excellent pseudo-authentic photo opportunities recreating the Anti-Fascist Protective Barrier (= Berlin Wall as known in the East). This year there was the added bonus of winning the third prize for the post war class with my pride and joy... Saturday night under canvas was interesting...

My sources indicate that the track themselves are 300 mm. wide. The overall width (with the track cover included) is 2940 mm. Would that help?

99% of the footage is East German with a couple of Polish T55s thrown in. The "singing" :shocked: ...such as it is... is in German... so why the Russian text at the beginning and the end?

The show started as an East Berlin day, to provide an occasion for using the East German trams that the Museum acquired some time ago. In this logic, the presence of members of the military of the four occupying powers and their vehicles is consistent. In the past, my own Land Rover was always allowed in.

Some of my greasing points (on UJs and elsewhere) don't take any grease regardless of what I do. I know that an option is to try and heat the parts up, but there are rubber bits nearby that concern me a bit. Radio ones in service with the east German military: this photograph was probably taken from inside a P3 Jeep as they had demister ports sticking out like that. A very early photograph which is very rare in colour and this good. The vehicle appears to be in factory fresh conditions with no East German modifications. Notice the Russian mud tyres, Russian canvas and the sheen of the paint B-)

The National Tramway Museum will hold its annual Red Oktober day on Sunday the 24th of October: http://www.tramway.co.uk/events/130/red-oktober It attracts eastern block civilian and military vehicles. From past editions: there are western decadent interlopers too... :-D I am planning on trailering down there my Gaz. I know a friend is bringing another Gaz 69 A like mine. Join in... the more the merrier...

I went to a minuscule show some 30 Km. away yesterday. For the occasion I swapped the insignia to Soviet ones and dressed accordingly: Surprisingly... no problem... :-D

I think it started life as an artillery tractor but then several variants were developed, e.g. command vehicle, ambulance etc... I bought one too :-D except that mine is 1:35 scale...
