There are a few suppliers on E bay who specialise in imperial bolts. Failing that; just put a search on imperial bolts and sift through the results. You will find quite a variation in prices. http://stores.ebay.com.hk/GREAT-BRITISH-BOLTS http://www.fastfixdirect.co.uk/ Edited May 27, 2009 by Swill1952xs Quote
snowtracdave Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 Might be worth trying GFM who advertise that they can supply Whitworth & BSF bolts up to 1 1/4" dia . They produce a small free catalogue - send an SAE to GFM 11 Roman Road , Bennetthorpe , Doncaster DN4 5HA . 01302 361662 . I have no connection & didn't buy from them in the end as they didn't do what I was looking for at the time but you might have more luck . Quote
84KB11 Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 I always use GR Fasteners: http://www.grfasteners.com/ Do most sizes and threads, with the advantage that you can buy 1 bolt if you want, rather than having to buy a whole pack. Quote

pockers Posted May 28, 2009 Author Posted May 28, 2009 Fantastic responses :-D have now got several sources for the bolts but need to know thread type im looking for a couple of bolts for the bottom of the windscreen that bolt on the rubber spacers one is a cross head the other a hex marked "verbut 8:8" any one know if they would be UNF or UNC for 1955 M38a1 (nekaf) Quote
79x100 Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 If a bolt's marked 8.8 then it's usually metric and indicates tensile strength. Could it have been replaced ? Quote

Adrian Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 I always use GR Fasteners: http://www.grfasteners.com/ Do most sizes and threads, with the advantage that you can buy 1 bolt if you want, rather than having to buy a whole pack. I use GR Fasteners for the T and have always been brillliant (they are also on my doorstep so an added bonus). Quote
Scammell4199 Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 I've always used GFM as mentioned by Snowtracdave and have always got what I wanted with good service. Quote
Stormin Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 Wherever you get them from be prepared to pay a premium price compared with metric! Most nuts & bolts are valued by weight but when you get to the lesser used imperial sizes, especially large or unusual threads the cost goes up. Suspect it's the reverse case over in the US. Quote
pockers Posted May 30, 2009 Author Posted May 30, 2009 Thanks for the all the posts it looks like the bolts are infact M8 however they must have been bad replacements as have been forced into the holes & ruined the threads hence why they were so hard to remove - grrrr! plan is to get some imperial ones & if they prove that the thread in the gole is damaged too then will have to re tap them. again thanks for all the replies & suppliers details Quote
Lauren Child Posted May 30, 2009 Posted May 30, 2009 Make sure you are specific when you ask for replacements (assuming you re-tap the threads). Imperial normally means BSW or BSF. UNF/UNC are both SAE threads that are measured in inches, but aren't Imperial. Quote
