Swill1952xs Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 That's a rather scrummy bit of kit. Right up my street. I'd love one of those to play with. Very useful things to have around and could possibly earn its keep too. P.S. the rear reflectors are missing............ Quote
Metroman Posted April 25, 2009 Posted April 25, 2009 Was it the one for sale at R+R's ? Mark I looked at R & R's, think its had more of a life than the 250 odd kilometers shown (me thinks). Quote
goldfinger R.I.P. Posted April 25, 2009 Author Posted April 25, 2009 Yes I think its maybe its 250 clicks since army rebuild, did you check on the ply rating of your tyres we enquired about? Quote
AndyFowler Posted April 25, 2009 Posted April 25, 2009 thanks andy My pleasure mate ! Lovely lorry !:-D Quote

antarmike Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 I bought the Berliet for my son Ben for his 18th Birthday,he also has a Zil 131 with a 150 Cummins conversion. Shame he'll have to wait till he is 21 to get his HGV to drive it. Quote
goldfinger R.I.P. Posted April 26, 2009 Author Posted April 26, 2009 I know Mike but I can drive it to shows for him and he can drive it on the many acres of concrete roads and tracks around us (private ground).Ben is not like most 18 year olds as he has no interest in cars, music or playstation games,he lives for trucks and military vehicles. He had his first vehicle at 13 and has had many since,he is now starting a vehicle collection and I figured that a wrecker would be prudent. As I say he is not a regular 18 year old,he left school at 13 as we opted for self Education and he has been working in the family buisness ever since. Some of our mates have huge collections and I think he is influenced by that.Look forward to meeting you at Rushden when we pick up the Brockhouse wings. antarmike Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 Its a nice looking truck, and I prefer the visible main winch to the hidden under the body where anything could be happening Mk3 Militant winch. I once saw a Mk3 where they had fitted a Hydraulic Boughton between the crane stays, on the back deck, and had given up using the flat winch in preference to one where you could see the cable laying on. The Flat "Wild/Scammell" winch is one reason I decided I would never own a Mk3 Militant recovery, this seems a much better set-up. What provision is there to Anchor the vehicle when winching? Quote
goldfinger R.I.P. Posted April 26, 2009 Author Posted April 26, 2009 There are Two anchors that fit to the front or rear of the truck as on the M54 5 ton wrecker, but I am not impressed,I think we will look at a modification. Quote
goldfinger R.I.P. Posted April 26, 2009 Author Posted April 26, 2009 Best bit about the Berliet is that she is multifuel. Quote
jerry.ice Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 I bought the Berliet for my son Ben for his 18th Birthday,he also has a Zil 131 with a 150 Cummins conversion. Christ that must have taken some wrapping! Could he tell what it was?:-D An impressive looking vehicle though. Do they only have a 4 seat cab though, looks like it would take a lot more. Quote
ArtistsRifles Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 I bought the Berliet for my son Ben for his 18th Birthday,he also has a Zil 131 with a 150 Cummins conversion. Even better - I see you have one of Gods gifts to the MV world too - a Stalwart!! (Not - of course - that I am at all biased here) Quote
goldfinger R.I.P. Posted April 27, 2009 Author Posted April 27, 2009 Yes the Berliet only has four seats although you can walk all around the cab.The engine cover is huge and the front winch is behind that so it would be tight to fit any more seats. Quote
