Maverick
Hi Guys, Passed a very tired looking Sherman hull on a low loader yesterday (Wednsday), it was heading north up the A12 approx 12 miles short of Ipswich. Anyone know about it?
Adrian Barrell
It was a Ram and it was coming to me for some work. Unless it was another of course! About 2 hours later you would have seen an M10 going the other way...
longydagun
Not knowing my geography to well but Ipswitch beeing near-ish to norwich its possible that its going to a collection near norwich depends whether it ws the ram as adrian suggested though. Do you know the varient at all?? Al

Adrian Barrell
- Adrian are you saying that you converted the Ram into a M10 in 2 hours :??? Actually, that's not so far out as it sounds, except for the two hours bit! There was a Ram 3" SP built with an M10 turret and upper hull. See http://ramtank.ca/ram_experiments.htm for more pictures.

Adrian Barrell
Some Work?????? Blimey, what do you call a lot of work....? Ha, Ha! :-D Actually, the owner has had a lot done so far, this is how it looked on the range. We have to fit a centre floor, new sponsons and make some parts.
snowtracdave
Isn't that the one which was recovered from Fingringhoe Ranges a while ago ? Good to see it coming back to life .

Adrian Barrell
Resurecting an old thread here but here are a couple of pictures of the said Ram. A before and after of the rh front. We had to put a new side and centre floor in as well as sponsons, floor angles and many other parts. All hot rivetted too. My neighbours ears are still ringing! That's impressive Adrian, however long did it take to drill those holes? I'm guessing that is 2" m/s plate with 3/4" rivets??

I'm guessing that is 2" m/s plate with 3/4" rivets?? 1 1/2" plate and yes, 3/4" rivets. It doesn't take too long to drill the holes, either on the radial drill or with the magbroach. My radial drill will drill up to 80mm dia so a 19mm is no problem! I can't remember how many rivets we put in altogether but there were four different sizes, 3/4, 5/8, 1/2 and 3/8 and a large number of different lengths. Enigma
I presume it is normal steel not real armoursteel.
Adrian Barrell
I presume it is normal steel not real armoursteel. That's correct, we're hoping the owner will not be shot at with anything too powerful!
Jack
Great stuff and would love to have a crack at the riveting. Or am I just being stupid?!
Antony
Here are some pictures of the removal of the side plate. We used one of the wheels in a frame bolted to the front to support the floor, and to enable the hull to be moved. The section to be replaced was gas cut out, and lowered down using straps on the forklift.
Antony
Here is the next sequence, the new side plate on the radial drill, the new floor section going in, and then the side plate being fitted in reverse order to removing the damaged section.
