Jack Posted June 19, 2008 Posted June 19, 2008 Folks - I am not starting a rumour here............ This week HMVF has been contacted by a Chinese company looking for a complete nut and bolt rebuild of a Willy's MB. I have replied to them like I do all email we get and it looks like this may well be the case. I have asked for clarification but I am feeling they could be barking up the wrong tree. Stay tuned. andreadavide Posted June 19, 2008 Posted June 19, 2008 Well, they could make a good repro, but I wonder how would they get it registered here in the n-European Buro-Technocracy Enlightened Nanny State..... Andrea Quote
Joris Posted June 19, 2008 Posted June 19, 2008 That would be impossible imho since it has to adhere to all current safety regulations. Quote
ashley Posted June 19, 2008 Posted June 19, 2008 May be with all the scrap metal they been sold recently they want to recycle it into the collectors spares / restoration market. Ashley Quote
Enigma Posted June 19, 2008 Posted June 19, 2008 People here in Europe would probably buy it, put in a WW2 registration nr. and drive it as a WW2 jeep. A bit like registering a 1962 M201 as a 1944 Willys. Oh Jack.. Willys is written without a " ' " between the Y and S... Quote
Papav66 Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 I'm concerned there might be some confusion with the chinese translations, are you sure they didn't mean - a chocolate one with nuts! Quote
AlienFTM Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 Willys. Rhymes with Phillys. For sale. Pedant hat. Blah blah. Quote
Jack Posted June 25, 2008 Author Posted June 25, 2008 Well it is official - the company are looking at reproducing Willys!! Quote
Hawk Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 Any news on future prices? I am hoping for less than a 1999 Peugeot 106 with 87k on the clock!!!!! Quote
Great War truck Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 Folks - I am not starting a rumour here............ This week HMVF has been contacted by a Chinese company looking for a complete nut and bolt rebuild of a Willy's MB. Stay tuned. I am still doubtful and think it will go the same way as the reproduction Tiger tank. To qualify for UK safety laws it would have to be so different it would not look anything like the original. You might as well buy a Mahindra. Tim (too) Quote
Stormin Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 To qualify for UK safety laws it would have to be so different it would not look anything like the original. You might as well buy a Mahindra. If the quantities to be sold in this country are sufficiently small (I believe the limit is 500 units) they could be sold on a single vehicle approval basis, same as for kit cars. That means various bits of nanny equipment fitted for the test and then removed as soon as it gets home. If you sell 500 in several countries over a few years it could well make it worth while. Quote
Lauren Child Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 Well it is official - the company are looking at reproducing Willys!! I get those emails all the time. Some kind of kit that you could send off for, along with herbal viagra. I'd ignore it if I were you... :coffee:. Quote
Degsy Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 How'd you know that Jack needs herbal viagra:confused::cool2: Quote
