Jack Posted May 24, 2008 Posted May 24, 2008 Snowtracdave and I thought we had found the perfect Autocar - that need restoration and came with a trailer unit.........but it has turned out to be a Federal 94x43 :argh: The hunt continues. Quote
Degsy Posted May 25, 2008 Posted May 25, 2008 What's wrong with a Federal Jack? They were very similar. Quote
Jack Posted May 25, 2008 Author Posted May 25, 2008 What's wrong with a Federal Jack? They were very similar. Good question - not too sure on the spare situation Degsy to be honest and the Autocar is hell of lot more uglier! 'did you like that?' :-D Hope you are well. Jack. Quote
Adrian Barrell Posted May 25, 2008 Posted May 25, 2008 Are not the Autocar and Federal mechanically identical? Quote
Great War truck Posted May 25, 2008 Posted May 25, 2008 I thought so, and cosmetically not that different either. I think Jack is setting his sites rather high. Go on then Jack. Post some pictures of what you found. Tim (too) Quote
Jack Posted May 25, 2008 Author Posted May 25, 2008 Are not the Autocar and Federal mechanically identical? Quite right Adrian and the White can be added to that too. The Autocar is 1cm taller. :coffee: Quote
Degsy Posted May 25, 2008 Posted May 25, 2008 'did you like that?' :-D Hope you are well. Jack. OY, THATS MY LINE:n00b: Fine thanks, a bit tender after a day and a half under the jimmy. Quote
Joris Posted May 26, 2008 Posted May 26, 2008 Then why did you not buy it? It would have done for spares and the trailer would fit the Autocar as well..? Quote
TooTallMike Posted May 26, 2008 Posted May 26, 2008 They are still out there to be found. Good luck in your search. Here's me with the Autocar grin after unloading (it goes along with the WLF and MUTT grins :-D) - Mike Quote
Jack Posted May 26, 2008 Author Posted May 26, 2008 Mike - I see yours is fitted with a winch - do you know how many where made with a winch fitted? Quote
TooTallMike Posted May 26, 2008 Posted May 26, 2008 Mine's the 5- to 6-ton U-8144 K-31 Radio wagon. It's technically very similar to the U-8144-T pontoon tractor but with a longer chassis. All had winches (although there is debate about the radio wagons) and are on 12.00 x 20 tyres. You're looking for the 5-tonne U-7144-T which is on 9.00 x 20 tyres. It has a shorter chassis and did not have a winch. - Mike ps. have you got the Tankograd book on these? Quote

TooTallMike Posted May 26, 2008 Posted May 26, 2008 The book is Tankograd publications no. 6005 US WWII Autocar U-7144-T & U-8144-T tractor trucks. Quote

The price has gone up! The Federal has now gone up by £2000 to £6,500:sweat: Quote
N.O.S. Posted December 15, 2008 Posted December 15, 2008 Jack, see my post #53 in Diamanod T Gallery, Transporters and Wreckers for info on that type of trailer........ Quote
N.O.S. Posted December 15, 2008 Posted December 15, 2008 Mind you, probably the most useful type of trailer to have! Quote
Runflat Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 The G503 forum are talking about an Autocar up for sale... down Texas way http://www.g503.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=133774 http://66.40.14.174/auctions/index.php?a=listing&pid=209&last=0&next=0 Quote
abn deuce Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 Very nice drivers front wheel has only 3 lug nuts and two stud are broken off it would seem . wonder how much was lost by it being striped and repainted likely inside and out . Still it does have a lot to offer someone looking for a rare HMV Quote
M5Clive Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 They are still out there to be found. Good luck in your search. Here's me with the Autocar grin after unloading (it goes along with the WLF and MUTT grins :-D) - Mike What are the chances of getting this 'mighty wagon' completed for the next Operation Bolero event in the summer of 2010 Mike?? We would even allow you to lead the convoy in that beauty, as long as Degsy doesn't mind being second! Quote
