  1. Hanno - Hehe, funny to see them emerging from everywhere I'm not sure what the law says about towing them? Seems the price is still quite good for it. Here's one Uisko-class boat for sale in Finland, this is expensive and I'm not fond of the rear cabin but of course its possible to modify the construction a bit. Good point with boats in this class is you usually always get a trailer with the package - which can be towed behind a Sisu truck... http://www.nettivene.com/viewBoat.php?status=F&id_boat=309664&PN[0]=latest&PL[0]=listBoat.php Still, I would rather buy straight from the Army, usually they cost less and no-one made any mods, new paint etc.
  2. That looks great, is it for sale;) I know the costs are high, lets say very high. If they were slow boats the mpb (mileage per barrel) would be easier to live with. Still its cheaper than buying a training Jet from Whitthams... There actually is no good reason to buy one as smaller Uisko-class boats are easier to find and usually come with a 10 meter trailer (total width 2.75m with boat) - but - the problem is, I know its still theoretically possible to get one so I can't stop myself for not wanting one! If I find one in usable condition I will certainly try one year whether I survive the running costs...
  3. Thanks, you are a real friend I wasn't man enough to make the call today, but I have already placed an advert for finding/buying Nuoli-class torpedo boat. If I could find something that is complete and still in working condition, it would save me at least 2 years of additional work. As Catweazle already told, the mooring is expensive - so rather have the boat on the water as much as possible. I'm not so scared about the costs of using it, as I would maybe use it for once a month for a shorter diving trips or just go fishing somewhere (with 5-10 person, all paying part of the diesel), anyway the season for using it would be only 4-6 months per year. On the rear deck it should have small crane and black Zodiac with 30-50bhp outboard. To me the hobby would be keeping everything in good condition and also to get some sort of licence for using it. Who needs a summer cottage when you can have your own ship and get a nice tan on the deck! Too bad my Northern skin type burns easily, but I could also spent my time on the "command deck" next to the fridge sipping some cold beer...
  4. The sum of parts seems to be more expensive than the whole ship was.
  5. Unbelievable how simple tools the Indies are using cutting those ships apart - it makes me feel sick seeing the status of the ship now.. Would be interesting to know, how much the owner of the operations earns per ship. I never saw the auction, how much were they expection to get from the ship?
  6. I can always turn the ship to a Viking Boat, you can have the first oar. We could all make a trip to France and back, over the Channel (looking from the map, that seems to be the easiest way) - I could find a 5bhp outboard which could help us to proper the ship to astonishing .005 knots per year. So its expensive to have a ship/boat in this class in UK, eh? I'm really looking forward to UK Pound devaluation before I move there. If I could get the ship for free, free brand-new engines for it, free upper deck, free painting, work etc. I still couldn't afford to keep it! I have to call Donald Trump for business advice, I need to earn more! Maybe I just start an acting career in Muppet Show, even as Miss Piggy but it has to pay me enough to keep my ship on the water. If it doesn't work, I will commit insurance fraud and sink the ship... Its really easy to make plans for life. Earlier I discarded the idea of buying Victory, they said they won't allow me to start a career as pirate, also the seven numbers up-keep costs are bit expensive so I would have to rob ships every day.
  7. You guys should stop me - not push me into buying crazy thing! I'm exactly the right type of buyer to purchase something like this, the bigger the better. Main problem is how to move it from its current location, to lets say to UK. I would also need some space where to work on it, and certainly this needs to be very close to water (can't afford a full blown road transport operation with police cars, remember its 6.5m wide... Maybe I transport it myself with rent-a-trailer and don't tell anyone...). On the other hand 22m long boat is actually a ship, I guess. So, the yearly costs for storage, harbour, insurance could be quite high? I would have no problem buying this if I would still live in Finland, but as I'm already half way to UK the space for these things is not easy to come by. But, from looks I'm something between Captain Stubing and Kermit, so maybe I could call it the Love Boat and run a Muppet Show every evening - that could help paying the expensies? I think I will tomorrow call the owner and see how firm he is with the price... I'm known for quick decisions so be prepared...
  8. Here's some further info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuoli_class_motor_gunboat Only 13 built, 2 scrapped, 1 in museum and now this one ruined... Damn!!! First time I was looking for these was year 2000 - my chances to get one are diminishing... One is in Exeter, UK - lucky sod! Regarding the boat in UK - here seems to be a photo of it ( )! World seems to be really small - you won't believe but I have actually been living on two of those buildings seen in the background , both the white (on the leftmost building) and the red one! Picture is taken from Helsinki. Actually not showing here, but the leftmost white building has my favourite beer bar, called Sailors (no, its not a GAY bar, LOL). I have no connection with the guy who took this picture, but funny as I'm now here in Germany and from this photo I found my old apartment(s) in Helsinki, just by using google and search word "Nuoli class"! Maybe this is a hint I should get the boat... OR A BEER!
  9. Just by surprise some guy bought my assault boat few days ago. I actually wasn't prepared for selling it, but as I already had plans of having something around 10m in size I thought why not (the assault boat was about 6m). So last few days I've been searching a replacement - something bit more serious and certainly bigger. Seemingly the problem is, if there's old army boat/ship they are usually converted for civilian use - and I want the real thing, no soft beds for me :-D... This one caught my eye, but someone had a grand idea of building it for civilian use, calculating they get 130m2 room inside. Unfortunately, they only disassembled the top part and likely realized it will be a huge project! So now its real rought project missing a lot, for example the upper deck! The bad point is, the price range for these boats (or ships?) is exactly what I could afford - the bad point is, now there's too much of work! If they had never done anything for it I would give my money, right arm and subscription for Penthouse 2009. Damn, I'm mad!! 22m long, 6.5m wide, weight 30 tons. This would have been my dream boat... I may offer half the price they are asking, but this boat requires a lot of work/money/time - first time on water maybe 2010...! Photos of really good ones seen here (boat 38 is in museum now): http://vanhanaikainen.blogit.kauppalehti.fi/2007/05/31/sotasalaisuus/ But what's for sale is number 5, ex-Finnish Army boat/ship in Nuoli-class (ie. "Arrow-Torpedo boat"), usually powered with triple V12 Diesels (3 x 520bhp Model V-55) from T-55 tanks giving 42-45 knot top speed. I'm mad because very rarely they come up for sale! Below are some photos of the boat for sale: ...Below its current status, missing most of the upper deck! ...and below seen in original condition...
  10. Great work, actually didn't expect anything else...! You must be a giant, I just compared you guys against the old Land Rover in your garage...! ...the gearbox seems to be working very smoothly now, thanks for the video! Cedric
  11. Yes, Google mail is the best choice. During last two years I only got one spam mail through their system. Its free and you have (almost) unlimited space available... Cedric
  12. So, now its obvious. Its for hiding the chair! The cover will also keep his farts inside.
  13. He's a dyslectic parajumper preparing for his first jump. Picture is taken just before his death, about 09:33:21 GMT.
  14. Hi Marty, yes - almost. The problem with Uisko-class is there are actually several different boat models that fit the criteria. The one I want is the open version. The slightly bigger models you are showing are rarely available and very expensive. But I would take one if I would have a job that pays me better! Maybe I move to Norway and start an oil company?! So, here a small picture of what I want: http://users.kymp.net/veleiro/img/_gvene.jpg ...and usually they look bit like this when bought from auction: http://kuvat.ktweb.fi/jukka/misc/kalkku/0507/uisko1.jpg There are different variations from even this open boat model, also a model with rear cabin is available, but as I told I want open boat with central (open) "cabin". Bit hard to explain, also there are different material options, but I only will accept a model made from aluminium. All models have a very good payload rating.
  15. Great patina, would be amazing to have something in such cosmetic condition like the Mitchell - but full running! I definately love the looks!
  16. Many thanks for your answers. I thought everyone wants to have their camp around their vehicles! I may need the extra six days to set up my camp, but then it will be so well camouflaged that you won't find me - maybe I find it hard to find myself from there;) I'm not the type who wants to show up in the uniform, but I'd like to have my tent, truck, trailer, boat and everything there - I have a theme for my hobby and would be great to have everything included for show. Too bad everything I own is big and needs space! Actually I'm also not the show-type, but this is bit different as I should have finished my projects then, so its like a target date. Where else you can have a full military camp around you? (Except in the Army of course!) Marty, I'm not yet done with all my projects - the trucks I have shown here (actually the Sisu's are going ahead quite well at the moment), but the boat & PTO trailer are still in Finland and I'm actually trying to find correct engines for the boat first. It did around 40 knots with a 60bhp engine (well, it says that in the registration papers - but never tested), but because Finnish law allows almost any modification I'm either putting a 1 x 150bhp engine or 2 x 50bhp 4-strokes. Naturally the boat is still in Finnish boat register, actually having a really cool reg. no. (in my opinion) "U-44429" (Das U-boot, LOL). The boat will also get some IR-lightning etc. stuff - but I have no pics for you at the moment - I'm sorry about that! Lot depends when I find the engines, then I can fin(n)ish the boat (its a fast project) and take some photos for you. Anyway it should look quite good once its finished! Certainly I do have a "shopping list" for other stuff as well, one you know - the BV206 - but also I'm looking for Uisko-class Finnish Army boat, usually 10m long with 2 x 175bhp engines, this would be perfect for sea use and politically incorrect in the high class "rich dude" harbour areas (I just show them my arse, LOL!). Its also an excellent diving boat. Julf, you seem to have interest in Finnish Army - please tell me more?! Great to hear you also have some kind of theme (sounds great, SAS/SBS!), definately we should have a small boat race. I'm a good loser, but unbearable if I win, LOL! Too bad Pasi's are not available for private use - if ever, Finnish Army sold the old ones to Estonian Army - maybe they are available again from Estonia in 25 years time...
  17. Ok, thanks for the info. Hopefully I won't be put next to German WWII re-enactors I've been on Switzerland on a military vehicle meeting (driving friends Range Rover 6x4, not mine) and as everyone already spoke German it was wierd listening WWII music in German and seeing all those German re-enactors in WWII uniforms. Something is not right about it, can't really explain... Guess the smallest re-enactors camp is the Swedish one
  18. Just to tell - I was taught to always write German in CAPITAL LETTERS! German is not spoken, its yelled. Most important and the only one you'll ever need: "EIN HEFE WEIZEN, BITTE SCHÖN!". If you want it really fast you have to add "ZAK ZAK!!", and if you want to be abusive add "DRECKSAU!". By using these words I have survived here about two years now. Also learned the "DRECKSAU" should be used less unless you want to have your beer thrown at your face... Took me about a year to realize that.
  19. Hi Guys, just a question - I missed this years War & Peace show, but next summer I'll definately be there with my Sisu truck+trailer+assault boat - naturally I want to bring all gear with me, so how do I reserve enough space for my tent, stuff etc.? I will have all Finnish gear, so I would like to create a "Finnish Camp". The truck itself is around 13-14 meters long with the trailer, plus a SA-20 tent (for 20 persons) 5x5m ground area, then the boat (3x7m area) and all almost all covered with webbing around 2-3 meter high + some radio gear (one radio mast 10m high). The Finnish Army camo-colouring is bit different from other countries, and I want to have a Finnish Military Divers -theme. Does this sound impossible (crazy it sure is)? ...or shall I just join some other camp (like British?), but then for sure I¨ll break their theme! So, how do you reserve such space, does it cost some extra? Naturally I'll stay overnight and therefore its more convenient to have a real camp. Never was in such meeting before but have to start preparing now... Cedric
  20. Good Lord, that is a Heaven! Many thanks for the photo, never seen so many in one picture!
  21. Its actually true that no springs should be shot blasted ever. This leaves a big question, how to remove the rust - mechanically? I actually do have the same problem right now, I have 12 leaf spring sets (ie. springs from 3 trucks) that need to be recurved to original specs and painted. But I want a perfect base for the paint, as I actually hate seeing newly painted springs getting rusty through the paint. What comes to greasing the springs, I have heard also the opposite - do not grease them! Grease only gets all the dust and sand between the springs and makes them wear faster.
  22. Great photo, when it was taken? If it still exists its unbelievable find!
  23. Many thanks Andy & Marty! Do other people find these BV206's tempting? For some reason, since seeing "Shining" (the movie) first time, I got in love with these small tracked vehicles (in the movie was a snow cat)! Actually Sisu also has a very similar looking version, powered with 3.9 V8 Rover or GM 6.2 Diesel. They just have the bad habit of losing their tracks occasionally. That Jacksons company looks slightly expensive, just by looking the modified vehicles... Anyway, I'll write them a line and see whats the current range. Remember, I'm moving to UK but have to have one! Thanks, Cedric
