You can spot an 88" Series One by looking at the front wings. On the lower edge just to the rear of the wheel arch is a bolt head. The gap between the bolt head and the edge of the wheel arch is 2" longer on the 88" than on the 86". Very obvious once spotted.

Thanks for that piece of information.  As I understand this, the distance from the body front to the back of the wheel arch is the same for both 86in and 88in.  To make an 88in, I would need to insert a 2in slice behind the arch to make it an 88in.
