Enigma
Just wondering; I don't suppose the british civilians were allowed to leave for England? So were they in fact imprisoned on the islands?
Tony B
Anorack on again. There was an option to leave the Island before the Occupation took place, some did. The greatest crime was the deportation and internment by the German's of all those not born in the Islands. These included Robert Hathaway, the American husband of Dame Cybil, La Dame de Sark. The first order was published 15th September 1942. 1,186 persons were sent to camps. Single men to Laufen. Families and single woman to Wurzach and Biberach. The treatment was not bad, indeed relations are quite cordial bettween the island's and the towns. Some however did not return
