Tony B
On this. Sorry for the poor picture. The background is a piece of canvas done by the Farther of the guy i get my bits off. He ended up as an RA Seargent. There is also a Royal west Kent badge in there. I would especially like to know the Div sign and any info on the place names. Thanks all. Degsy
The place names are all Indian and Burmese, try looking up 14th Army, probably lots of info there.
Tony B
Unfortunately Degsey, not as much as you think. A lot of Campaign but precious little detail.
Degsy
Tony, have you tried just putting the place names in search? As I'm sure you know they were all famous battles. Unfortunately although I've read a number of very good books on the subject I don't remember any titles. Have you tried your local library? Degsy
Hi Tony, your pic stirred my interest, the div sign is the Golden Arrow insignia of 7th Indian Div, all the regt's listed on the pic except the 3/6 Gurkhas are shown in the order of battle lists I have found for the Div but the lists are not necessarily complete. There is no reference to the Royal West Kents but I seem to remember they were mentioned in a book about the Kohima siege. I dont think 7th Indian Div were directly involved in the siege at Kohima but may have been involved in fighting for the relief of Kohima and then the subsequent advances which culminated in the clearing of the Japs from the whole of Burma. Hope this helps and I will be very interested to hear of anything you discover about the pic.
Tony B
Thanks Degsey, I've got a start now. Any futher info much appreciated, Colin intends to take the banner down to the West kent Museum. it fascinates me as the man put so much work into it but apparently would never talk about what happned to him. have you any idea what the rose design is? Degsy
The white rose motif must refer to Yorkshire, the West Yorks and East Yorks were both in 7th Indian Div and as the E.Yorks badge was a rose it might refer to them but I am guessing.
