Blackpowder44 Posted September 5, 2016 Author Posted September 5, 2016 Looks like an ex British jeep. What year? Good project, how are/were the floors? IN March of 2001 I wrote to Wally Duggan at the Museum of Army Transport and the info. he supplied is as follows, M no. M5845220, post WWII 53 YH 35 sold out of service at Bicester auctions 15 Oct. 1957, lot 850. Jeep manufactured January 1945 as soon as I can get my wife to take the pictures from the album and put them into the computer I can bore you to death with restoration pics. The person I bought the jeep from also had a comprehensive collection of bills from ,1963 onwards. These may be of interest because of the prices charged by the various suppliers, Metamet, Tillies of Dorchester, Swaffield tyre service of Bristol, Universal Car Distributors (London) Ltd. Metcalfe"s of Leyburn a lso early test certificates. John. Quote
Blackpowder44 Posted September 6, 2016 Author Posted September 6, 2016 I have tried to add more pictures to this site but I keep getting the message clear list, have no idea what this means, help, John. Quote
Chris Hall Posted September 7, 2016 Posted September 7, 2016 I have no idea what that means either. You could try a hosting site like photo bucket or similar. being a late production ford, and having seen little use (at least time wise), did it/does it still have its original engine and drive train? This is one of the invoices from metamet dated 12 2 65 showing that the owner had an exchange engine. John. Quote
Blackpowder44 Posted September 7, 2016 Author Posted September 7, 2016 Recovering jeep from shed where it had been stored since 1970 Quote
Blackpowder44 Posted September 7, 2016 Author Posted September 7, 2016 State of engine bay, chassis was solid with no welding needed, just sand blast Quote
Blackpowder44 Posted September 7, 2016 Author Posted September 7, 2016 On the rear bumpers and on the front of the windscreen I found the stars and bars of Southern Command and on the other side the formation sign for REME with a white bar on top 13 COMMD WKSP which I think was Aldershot Quote
fayjo56 Posted September 7, 2016 Posted September 7, 2016 Nice find, will you finish the jeep in these markings? Quote
wally dugan Posted September 7, 2016 Posted September 7, 2016 13 COMMAND WORKSHOP was at ALDERSHOT 1942 TO 1962 Quote
Blackpowder44 Posted September 10, 2016 Author Posted September 10, 2016 Nice find, will you finish the jeep in these markings? yes markings will be re applied. The jeep is painted in bronze green and the engine bay in duck egg blue. These are the colours found on the jeep during restoration. John. Quote
Blackpowder44 Posted September 10, 2016 Author Posted September 10, 2016 13 COMMAND WORKSHOP was at ALDERSHOT 1942 TO 1962 Thanks Wally, as allways good to hear from an expert, John. Quote
Blackpowder44 Posted September 10, 2016 Author Posted September 10, 2016 I have seen two jeeps that are known to been in service with the British army with the same hole cut into the dashboard, most guesses are that it is for a speaker, have you any other suggestions, John. Quote
Blackpowder44 Posted September 11, 2016 Author Posted September 11, 2016 Much of the floor pan and top hat supports were rotten and the following pictures are a bit out of sequence but you will see the amount of cutting and forming by hand the new parts had to be done, John. Quote
Blackpowder44 Posted September 11, 2016 Author Posted September 11, 2016 The only solid parts of the body tub were the bulkhead and the outer rear wheel arches therefor I had to fabricate the front and rear floor pans and the riser from front floor to rear floor and the inner rear wheel arches, John. Johnc61 Posted September 11, 2016 Posted September 11, 2016 Great photo record. Agree with Pete, if you have a series of photos as you progress restoration, they are always valuable and appreciated. Just so good to see an original vehicle being brought back to life. Quote
