G506
Hi everyone, thought I had better introduce myself! R cubed and Bodger Baz have been telling me to sign up, so here I am! What can I tell you, well, it all started on a ''weekend break'' my mum and dad had in the New Forest in the autumn of 1968..........ah, no, sorry, thats going back a bit too far........ok, it all started in the early eighties, when as a schoolboy I made the realisation that Airfix kits of MVs were ok, but the real thing was so much better! I left school at 16, and straight away started looking for a project with my very meagre funds. One of the first vehicles I looked at was a WW2 1 1/2 ton Chevrolet M6 Bomb crane, but it was too major a project for a very nervous 16 yr old, so instead I settled for an M38A1, which I restored, making lots of mistakes, but learnt lots in the process. Numerous MVs followed, Morris MRA1, Landy 2a SWB, BSA B40, Can Am, Triumph TRW, in varying states of dis-repair, all of which came and went, but in the mid nineties I bought a '61 Land Rover 2a LWB, and a '41 Triumph 5SW, both of which I still own, and love 'em both dearly! But I still really fancied a Chev...... Last summer, I stumbled across a '42 Chev 1 1/2 ton tipper, in a hell of a state, only just rescueable, but I just couldnt bear the thought of it being cut up. So, 'Oddball', as she is already known (obviously after Donald Sutherland's character in Kelly's Heroes), is coming along nicely, and doing a very good job of extracting any spare cash I have, even better than my daughter! I should have stuck to Airfix kits, much cheaper and no rust issues.............

G506
Welcome G506, do you have any pictures of the '42 chevy? Sounds like a major project! Thanks Joris, good to be here! I will try to post some pics soon, it's certainly a major project, one of the first jobs was to remove an entire 30'' section of rotten chassis from the driver's side and replace with new, and 24'' from the passenger side! Since then the chassis been totally stripped and blasted, and now in Olive Drab. Currently Im doing axles, front nearly finished, just started the rear. G506
Hi G506, nice to see another 1 1/2 ton Chev owner. Would be nice to see some pics of the restoration, sounds like a real job. And i thought mine was bad :-) Hi Pop, I will try to add some photos in the next few weeks. Major restorations are one thing, but fairly simple operations on a computer, now thats scary........ Ive seen your restoration pics, looks like you're doing a great job!!! :-) Ive set myself a target of 'Oddball' the Chevy being finished May 2009. But then, I always was an optimist! G506
