Peter4456
I have a 1980 Land Rover Lightweight FFR (24v) and I'm pretty sure the generator bearing is on the way out! Are these available as a seperate item or am I going to need a new generator? Any help appreciated and if anyone has the relevant EMER pages they could copy for me, I'd be happy to cover your costs! ruxy
Have you neglected the end-shield lubricator at pulley end (big bearing) ? - if so try some oil , ISTR this is a Prestolite Leece-Neville spl.

I took mine round to the local auto electrics specialist they replaced the bearings at a very reasonable cost

The bearings are no problem, but do the lot whilst you have it stripped!! BTW, I still have the new one in storage! Grease the main bearing by removing the screw cap and push the grease in with your finger until you think you have enough in, refit screw & run engine & repeat if needs be - look in the hole, if its still got grease in leave it alone . Don't over do it or f**ked Generator. If you have the belts off, or slacken them, then check for play on the shaft, you'll soon know. http://forum.militarylightweight.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=2159.
