What are you actually asking for? I've found with insurers that while you need to fully declare, overcomplicating things can be a minefield. Probably best to go in asking for public liability rather than talking about vehicle restoration initially, set them off on the right track.

I've just been looking for public liability and found Towergate to be quite helpful.

It is a bit of a mare....

A few years ago I got my renewal and was just about to send the money when I checked the small print - to discover that the exclusions now included classic vehicles....

I checked with my broker (Norton Insurance). Naaaaaaa they said - must be a mistake - but we'll check. They did. It wasn't. The insurance company had decided that it no longer wanted to be in the classic vehicle business but had still quoted with my title being Rustytrucks Vintage Vehicle Restoration Services.

Anyway there are specialist brokers for classic vehicle restoration and a quick google will find them for you. Watch out for the exclusions though - standard ones include "American vehicles" for instance.

If you are a member of (or join) the FBHVC they have the insurance you are looking for through Zurich via Aston Scott, we have had it for past 5 years and they will tailor a package for you

http://www.fbhvc.co.uk/ contact them and ask about their insurance scheme

Download PDF - Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs

Might be worth you trying your local NFU agent or insurance broker.

I'd suggest NFU, they seem very switched on. Another one that have a open attitude is Hiscox Insurance. Might be worth contacting another restoration buissness and asking them.

Depending on how you are setting up you may want to consider contractors insurance.

If you are solely going to be working on vehicles that are owned by others, then the vehicle should be insured by them. Then you'd just need the normal, public, private and professional indemnity to cover your works on their vehicles.

That's my understanding anyway - get some proper advice but it might save you some pennies and headache.
