Real or Fake

Willyslancs

Recommended Posts

How about two very big engines, each has a crank driven prop and two at each side driven by shafts and spur gears, making six props altogether.

The engine casing has to be that big to accommodate the very big landing wheels and undercarriage when retracted rearwards, one of which is already up or not lowered yet. Aircraft undercarriages often retract unevenly, or maybe there was a problem.

The nose wheel presumably retracts into the fuselage, although it does look a bit 'stuck on'.

Another possibility is there are four wheels each side and what looks like a nose wheel is in fact the rear l/h undercarriage, this would explain the size of the engine housings.

The props appear to be still due to the high camera shutter speed.

Closer inspection shows that the main fuselage is a 'tail dragger' (like most British WW2 bombers and planes), why would it have a nose wheel? It wouldn't be able to take off would it?

Not sure if it's a fake, but if it was real then I can really understand why it never came into production (nearly wrote 'never took off', but aparently it did)

It could have been a mock up for some sort of project. Fake photo, but not necessarily a fake artifact.

Quite agree lots of things have been faked in pictures and have actually become historical and famous.

The Cottingly Fairies and the Loch Ness Monster all are now part of our history.

Not forgeting all those plywood and inflatable tanks and planes we had in WW2.

I have a small photo of a Fokker G1 in mid air, burning and trailing smoke.

Fake, it was originally a photo postcard.

Also a small photo of several of these dogfighting German bombers, fake.

Here the pics, nr 5 and 6.
