79x100
I like that silencer Ron. Art-deco meets Ministry of Supply. I think that I'm going to have to put a Brooklands can on the 16H.
Ron
Unbelievably Rich. While I was busy selling stuff at Netley. Lex found one of those silencers in perfect condition. He said it's correct for his 'Royal Baby' project. I thought it looked too big and when he realises that, he will probably give it to me???!!! Ron
I have finally got the exhaust system fettled and installed. Ron
Ron
I have spent the last week or so preparing the petrol tank after getting it soda blasted. A good few coats of 2 pack high build primer and lots of wet and dry and then a couple of top coats. I used some stencils from 'Axholme Signs' and waterslide transfers from 'Classic Transfers'. Ron Ron, yours is much nicer anyway, and I will only cut off the fishtail, the rest is availeble if someone needs it? Is the WD/L ready now?? Ron
Yes please Lex! Save the main part of the silencer for me. The WD/L is finished and has oil in the engine. But I haven't run it yet. I'm busy making alterations to my shed to make room to get it off the bench. Stefano
Ron, The bike looks magnificent - and you've done it at a pace that I can only dream about. Well done!! Stef
79x100
It's a fine looking machine Ron, and you've made a damned good job of it, as usual. I'm really glad that it ended up in your hands. it must be the sole properly restored survivor. I wonder what they're like to ride ?
Ron
I'll give it a go in due course Rik, when the weather is nicer. Although it does feel strange just sitting on it while wheeling it about. The big, high headlamp makes it feel like there is no front wheel or mudguard. Also the front fork spring seems very stiff to me. I think probably because these were designed mainly for side-car use. However the previous owner had ridden it some years ago on the colonial section of the Arbuthnot trial.....So it must work ok.(I have seen the pictures) Also nothing much is going anywhere at the moment as I've shuffled everything close together for my shed alterations. graham, c. Davies.
would this wd/l be 570cc The one ime looking for is 700cc single girder forcks 4 speed had to turn mag to retar when starting had a deecompreser . Has aney one seen or heard of one could have made at Bradford on avon in war time.. Regards.Graham.
Ron
Yes the WD/L is 570cc Graham. But I'm not sure what you're asking about that is 700cc. Are you talking about a military bike? Most of these bikes will need a decompressor and timing retarded for normal starting. Ron
graham, c. Davies.
thanks Ron, the owner told me its a constellation was made for the yanks who wanted a bigger bike to go from base to base looks like ile have to dig it up. regards.G.D. Ron
The Constellation was a 700cc twin with tele forks from the late 50's. onward. Ron

graham, c. Davies.
Hi.Ron. your saying the same as a lot of others.wee all know about the 700cc twin conie-this was a single conie- was painted black. Not maney made so was not dockumented by enfield was their a 620cc bike as well.
Ron
Well my area of interest is mainly war time. I don't know of a 620cc at all. Just the 700cc meteor and constellation from the 50's. Maybe you should make enquirers with the Royal Enfield Owners Club who will have archive records of all models. Ron
Chris Hall
If there was a very small batch ordered of any bike in ww2 for the WD there would still be a record and contract. Seeing as even experimental bikes and a few test samples were still recorded on contract, i.e. the RE lightweight 350 then I would say someone has got confused. Also the yanks would have used the Harley or Indian chief or even a jeep No way would they buy British, they wouldn’t even buy the RR Merlin, they made it them selves under license. Could it be an Indian Chief motorcycle that the owner has confused with Enfield India now called Royal Enfield??? Ron
Well the model WD/L is back on the bench. First thing is the addition of a front number plate. I've had the original unique Enfield number plate mounts for a long time and one of Jan's laser cut true to shape plates is now fitted. My main minor disaster, is that the paint on the N/S of the tank has started to peel off in one place for no apparent reason? The 2PK primer has just lifted off. So the tank will come off for grinding back, filling and respray. Don't think I'll be using that 2PK again. There is also an issue with the mag, which will also come off tomorrow....The problem is, as I tighten the mag pinion nut, the points gap alters, which is due to inaccurate shimming of the end cover. I'll take it to my mag guy for his expertise on Wednesday. I also need a Norton field stand foot if anyone has one for sale. Ron
