Another new toy...CVRT Striker

Recommended Posts

Went and collected our latest acquisition this weekend, a CVRT Striker. Its hull number 4 (so an early one) and has had a fair bit of restoration work carried out on it already. Its a runner too, so we'll be bringing it to Beltring. The plan is to start sorting out and bolting on all the rest of it on site.

Nice one...

Good to see another example of gods own military vehicle, the CVRT, in safe hands..!

Didn't know Dinky did one though, will have to keep an eye out for one.

Cheers

Some progress has been made on this project recently.

The fuel system has been re-installed and works well.

New batteries have been fitted along with new battery-vent pipework.

A brake light switch has been installed (was missing) and the false floor, accelerator pedal (early type), throttle linkage and tillers fitted. Also fitted the choke rod and gear change indicator and cable.

In the transmission compartment the alternator belt tensioner pulley has had a new pulley fitted.

A new silencer and tail pipe have been installed along with various other exhaust bits. The air filter has been serviced and installed.

I also drove it into the yard and jet washed it after carrying out some paint prep work.

Mike has been removing the old grille mesh from decks in preparation for fitting new mesh covers which we had in stock.

Not posted on here for a while, but here's some more progress.

Externally it's nearly done and inside the seat frames have been refurbished and we have sent the seats away to be re-upholstered. Gunners site is in as are the cupola periscopes. New rear mudguards with all mud flaps made from old train corridor rubber. You can be have an eco-friendly tank restoration! Spent most of today fitting the early style rear number plate and associated lights. Its all the small jobs that take the most time!

Its also now wearing a set of 90% tracks.

Interesting to see this CVR(T) is road registered but its headlights have not been repositioned to comply with Road vehicle Lighting Regulations. Seems to make a mockery of one of the stated reasons DLVA gave for not registering a Stormer, recently....

Do they need repositioning on a 1978 vehicle!?

On a vehicle whose date of first use is on or before 1.1.72, there is no requirement as to position. A vehicle which was first used after this date, that is not an Agricultural vehicle, an industrial tractor or engineering plant, cannot have the lamps mounted in a position where the distance from the outside edge of the lamp to the edge of the body exceeds 400mm. This CVR(T) may be okay but to me it looks like more than 400mm from the edge of the lamp to the edge of the bodywork.

In and out of DVLA office in about 20mins with no issues. I suspect the age of the Striker raises fewer eyebrows than that of the Stormer, plus there is no width issue.

Agree about the headlights but they would be laughably easy to move so no real issue.
