  1. Note the devious way he referred to it as a subsidy. What next, a ban on oil fired central heating? Clockwork vehicles only in central London? Fortunately they have recognized the problem with people that burn any old rubbish in a wood burner.
  2. They were all erks last time I checked.
  3. Click on his profile then on message box.
  4. Looks rather like a Countryman 7kW ground power unit.
  5. Is that the ex Mike Sutcliffe Leyland? I knew he had one many years ago but never saw it.
  6. Still available..... https://www.walmart.com/ip/Peerless-Chain-Truck-Tire-Chains-0322730/19853279
  7. With a bit of help from Google: Meanwhile, in September 1952 another tank squadron was raised. This was known as Nucleus Squadron and, based in Holsworthy, New South Wales, with the purpose of forming the basis of a second tank unit which was to be named the 2nd Armoured Regiment. In 1954 the regiment received it first Ferret MK 1 Scout Car, enabling the raising of Reconnaissance Troop. The following year 1st Armoured Regiment received the Saracen Armoured Personnel Carrier, and it was at this time that the intention to form another tank unit was abandoned, and Nucleus Squadron subsequently returned to the regiment as its third squadron, designated C Squadron.
  8. I hadn't noticed the under frame truss with a turnbuckle before, does it have a certain preload?
  9. Interesting 160 page compilation from allied manuals used in the preparation for D-Day.
  10. That's called letting the customer do your R&D. The only current advantage is that they are a lot quieter than an equivalent diesel engine.
  11. We have 6 Scania 9litre CNG tractors on trial at work, the drivers don't like them and they are costly in maintenance as they need an oil change and expensive spark plugs every 5/6 weeks. Until recently we had to drive them a round trip of 65 miles just to fill them up at the nearest gas station.
  12. I'm sure Elon could knock you one up overnight...
  13. Why can a Merlin/Meteor not be assembled in the conventional manner, are the big ends too large to pass down the bores?
  14. Also explains the ungainly set back front axle. To be totally correct it was the VW Iltis that used the system first, 2 years ahead of Quattro.
  15. Agreed David, looking at the huge front overhang could it have had a nose job to fit a larger engine rather like the Scammell 100 tonners?
  16. The last photo shows a similar beam to the front axle without a diff at conventional half shaft level which suggests a high level hub drive similar to those used by Latil. Not Latil but gives an idea of the concept:
  17. This one?? http://www.dunsfoldcollection.co.uk/collection/series1/81-rolls-engined-military-trials#v
  18. So if the grader blade managed to trap a rock directly above the mine there was a good chance of an explosion?
