  1. What ever happened to Blackburn Beverley C1 XB259 at the Museum?
  2. With the Government agreeing to renew our Nuclear Ballistic Missile Deterrent, despite the cost, it does concern me slightly that by the time the new RN Subs are in service, new technology such as that in the attached photo, may make the proposed Subs redundant. I'm not against such weapons but its not beyond the bounds of possibility that a number of hostile nations drones could be deployed to lurk in the areas covering exit and entry points to port and then 'track follow' our Subs wherever they go, and be ready to attack at a moments notice. Its fairly well known that Subs can sit on the bottom and use existing wrecks to give cover from radar, and despite the fact that the open sea is 'International Waters' drones without a crew to capture might be tempted to come much closer. Sweden has found a lot of evidence that a certain nation has been illegally entering its lochs over the years. Your thoughts?
  3. IMHO - Ugly as sin and over priced compared to many other desirable MV's
  4. Its a shame both Hop Farm and Headcorn shows cannot be 'combined' into a Hop-corn event !
  5. That Stug is an amazing sight; something I never would have expected to see when I joined the MVCG in er 1978! Which other shows will it attend?
  6. I see from the show website that it is possible to book in on the day, which is handy for me as I have the time to attend next weekend.
  7. May we see the original photo mentioned above, that the owner has, as I'm not sure the black and white photo above is 'wartime'. Also the vehicle doesn't seem to be the same one on milweb http://www.milweb.net/webvert/a1668 unless it was restored in record time and re-registered.
  8. Hey Sarg, do I have to wash the Land Rover before I paint it?
  9. I totally agree; they should not put people off before they even start taking bookings
  10. Well if there is a next year show at WPR, if the web site still says don't bother booking if you cannot come for the full 5 days, I won't risk driving 100 miles just to get turned away
  11. Its also possible to find gloss British Bronze Green on Nato coloured vehicles if a part from stores in BG was used for repair. My Lwt has a BG bulkhead that was over painted in service with Nato Green!
  12. What put me off WPR this year was the statement on the online booking that said its a Tuesday to Saturday show so if you cannot be there fir that period don't bother booking. I have since read that some members left early but did anyone arrive a day or more late and get in? Also as for enthusiasts doing their own thing I wonder what the cost of the public liability insurance would be for a 3,000 vehicle show? Perhaps a bit of crowd funding to set up a show might help?
  13. A few questions; Is it a vehicle that was impressed in to service or one produced for the RAF? I seem to remember a small number of cars were made for essential use early in the war, so was it built in black paint? If it was made for the RAF it could have been RAF blue up to August 1941. As for the Black wings these were used on some RAF vehicles just prior to WW2 but Black wings were standard post war for a few years when RAF Blue replaced the British Army style camo of the war years.
  14. At ne time being close to the Out of interest how was the traffic? I read that the French Passport Control 'go slow' had caused the traffic to be at grid lock for many hours for people going to the Ferries.
  15. Have any of you every been to the Military Vehicle Museum in Rome, which is called Museo Storico Della MotorizzazioneMilitare Dell'esercito? The museum is located in the south of Rome at 170, Viale dell’esercito, Cecchignola, Rome I'm wondering if it is worth a visit and whether its as good as the Tank Museum or Saumur?
  16. Interesting; I wasn't aware you could pay to camp as a member of the public without exhibiting!
  17. Out of interest where is Dunchurch and what dates is the show to be held?
  18. I appreciate its easier for the exhibitors but if they don't sort out the parking for joe public they will not get the visitors coming back each year.
  19. Is there anyone on here who is involved with the Victory Show? Last year I went as a civi and it took two hours to cover the last 1.5 miles to the show, as the traffic was so bad, probably the worst I have seen in all the years I have been driving. The reason is that cars entering the site are stopped and then pay to enter. This then means that cars leave the public road at a snails pace (well not as quick actually). So may I suggest getting the cars off the road in to various fields and then have the public pay on foot. It really would make the Victory Show a great day out for the family rather than become a 'never again dear' experience.
  20. I think RAF Transport Command had it HQ at RAF Upavon, Wilts
  21. Surely the RAF Museum would be interested? There is an RAF Museum staff member on here by user name of RAFMT
  22. So the radio body is not worth saving then? I new it wasn't original to your particular vehicle but I wondered if it was of use to another mv owner if it was actually a real radio body rather than one made up for the conversion.
  23. Keep up the good work Ian; hopefully one or both will be ready for 100th Anniversary of RAF in 2018, and you might make it to RAF Northolt if they put on another open day. Regards Larry
  24. Going back a bit to the earlier photos, I presume the radio type house body was saved and passed on to someone as it did look to be a period item, and often seen on CMPs
