  1. What put me off WPR this year was the statement on the online booking that said its a Tuesday to Saturday show so if you cannot be there fir that period don't bother booking. I have since read that some members left early but did anyone arrive a day or more late and get in? Also as for enthusiasts doing their own thing I wonder what the cost of the public liability insurance would be for a 3,000 vehicle show? Perhaps a bit of crowd funding to set up a show might help?
  2. A few questions; Is it a vehicle that was impressed in to service or one produced for the RAF? I seem to remember a small number of cars were made for essential use early in the war, so was it built in black paint? If it was made for the RAF it could have been RAF blue up to August 1941. As for the Black wings these were used on some RAF vehicles just prior to WW2 but Black wings were standard post war for a few years when RAF Blue replaced the British Army style camo of the war years.
  3. At ne time being close to the Out of interest how was the traffic? I read that the French Passport Control 'go slow' had caused the traffic to be at grid lock for many hours for people going to the Ferries.
  4. Have any of you every been to the Military Vehicle Museum in Rome, which is called Museo Storico Della MotorizzazioneMilitare Dell'esercito? The museum is located in the south of Rome at 170, Viale dell’esercito, Cecchignola, Rome I'm wondering if it is worth a visit and whether its as good as the Tank Museum or Saumur?
  5. Interesting; I wasn't aware you could pay to camp as a member of the public without exhibiting!
  6. Out of interest where is Dunchurch and what dates is the show to be held?
  7. I appreciate its easier for the exhibitors but if they don't sort out the parking for joe public they will not get the visitors coming back each year.
  8. Is there anyone on here who is involved with the Victory Show? Last year I went as a civi and it took two hours to cover the last 1.5 miles to the show, as the traffic was so bad, probably the worst I have seen in all the years I have been driving. The reason is that cars entering the site are stopped and then pay to enter. This then means that cars leave the public road at a snails pace (well not as quick actually). So may I suggest getting the cars off the road in to various fields and then have the public pay on foot. It really would make the Victory Show a great day out for the family rather than become a 'never again dear' experience.
  9. I think RAF Transport Command had it HQ at RAF Upavon, Wilts
  10. Surely the RAF Museum would be interested? There is an RAF Museum staff member on here by user name of RAFMT
  11. So the radio body is not worth saving then? I new it wasn't original to your particular vehicle but I wondered if it was of use to another mv owner if it was actually a real radio body rather than one made up for the conversion.
  12. Keep up the good work Ian; hopefully one or both will be ready for 100th Anniversary of RAF in 2018, and you might make it to RAF Northolt if they put on another open day. Regards Larry
  13. Going back a bit to the earlier photos, I presume the radio type house body was saved and passed on to someone as it did look to be a period item, and often seen on CMPs
  14. I see their website and that it says that booking is now closed but then goes on to say MVs are welcome to attend! Has anyone got the name of the contact and email of the co-ordinator, which I seem to remember is a serving RAF Officer. I'd like to attend
  15. I have not seen much about this show, which has been going for a few years located at Temple Ln, Dorking RH5 5LW, UK. So who is going and how many MVs were there last year?
  16. And as a spectator where might anyone suggest as a good vantage point to see the armour go by?
  17. Tony, Do you have any photos of Allen Trailers - what were they used for?
  18. Is there any way of tracing the Registration with the DVLA
  19. Well done. An inspiration to all! I looking forward to the end result!
  20. I have a suggestion for the Tank Museum. At one of your open days or Tank Fests get a line up of British Army vehicles from 1939 and the same for 1945 to show the public, how the Army changed in 6 years. So for example 1939 could have a Vickers Mark VI light tank, Matilda I, an aero screen Bedford WOT or Morris CS8, motorbike and side car, 2 pdr AT gun and re-enactors in early style kit etc, and for 1945 have a Comet, M5 Halftrack, Jeep, 17 pdr AT and re-enactors in late war uniforms and kit. Much else can be provided thats too long to list but it has great potential interest to the public and us too!
  21. Tony, well done for your restoration and what a stroke of luck to find a photo of it in service. Its interesting to see RAF personnel as outriders on the Fordsons, like gangsters or secret servicemen on the President's car! NB Are you still looking for a trailer and a P-51 to put on the back?
  22. It might be worth explaining what happens when you try to start. I presume that the engine turns over quite nicely on the starter motor and its not sluggish? Incidentally my Lwt turns over nicely but fails to start but if I pull the choke out it fires up, so I bet its something very simple. Returning to what Clive suggested in checking the condensor in the distributor, he will be the first to agree that there is no way of looking to see if they are OK and even ones out of the box might be duff, so try a few from your spares to reduce the chance it's the one you are using now.
  23. Oh well, a Yes or No will have to do; so which is it in answer to my question above? My informant who claimed to be a re-enactor said there was a prosecution pending, which I find hard to believe, as surely someone in government would have to announce it in the houses of parliament. Laws don't just appear do they without discussion? I know that ignorance of the law in the UK is no defence and everyone including those with a half a brain cell will know that it is a crime if you kill or injure another person, or rape, rob, steal, defraud etc - but if it suddenly becomes a crime to carry a walking stick or 'be in possession of an imitation walking stick' after years and years of simple pleasure and enjoyment of ownership without causing any harm, it's not right that I should be arrested at an event when all I wanted to do was talk to the public and educate them as to how walking sticks were used in the past. It's enough to make me go over the top but not in the way my grandfather did in WW1 with his stick!
