  1. Well today was the first time I have had the ferret running since I acquired it about a year ago. Engine was sized through non use, took the head off to find 2 valves had stuck closed. Took all the valves out, cleaned and re-seated them. New points, condenser and plugs. Redone the timing and with a temp. fuel supply away she went. All the neighbours came out after seeing all the smoke pouring from the engine bay and exhaust. This was due to all the years of diesel, WD40 and god knows what else put down the bores to try to free them off. After about 10mins running she ran clean. Generator kicks in so know that's working. Oil pressure lamps goes out, also a reassuring. So bit the bullet and took the tank out, lots of cursing, but managed to get it out on my own. Got the fuel pump off to find it was full of rusty water. Refurb kit to be ordered tomorrow. Need to pressure up the tank to see if there are any leaks. Then once that's all put together its just cosmetics to finish. Oh need to sort the brakes, got a set of flexi's to put on then away we go.:drive: So 33BA3 soon to be on the road.
  2. Thanks for the reply Robin. I could ask the wife to step up to the task of helping out, she would be more than willing to but the air would be blue within a couple of minutes and a fight would soon follow lol. I need to overhaul the pump as I would hate to have the ferret breakdown out on the road in the middle of nowhere.
  3. Just wondering, has anyone here ever tried and succeeded in removing the fuel pump from a Mk1 ferret without taking out the fuel tank and all the other items before the tank can be taken out. I think I have read somewhere on the forum that it is possible but wondered if its a lot of hassle and just as quick to take the tank out.
  4. Hi, yes they are the sort of tyres found on a ferret but they look really bad. Be very careful of tyres of this age with cracks in them, the last thing you want is for one of these tyres to break down when you are driving 3tons of amour around.
  5. Hi Ferret owners, my question is how easy is it to reset the points on the ferret. When I say reset I mean the synchronisation of the points. I am not sure if they have been messed with but the red paint looks to have been disturbed or maybe its just flaked away. Had a look in my manual and its tells you how but just thought I'd ask the question here to see if anyone has done it before. Thanks Steve.
  6. Well from what I have been reading here I doubt I shall be taking the trip. Was thinking of going for a couple of days to see but now not worth the effort. Looking forward to Dunchurch as I've never been.
  7. Me and the wife set up camp on the Friday early evening. Total nightmare trying to put up the awning on the side of our van but well worth it. What a show, never seen so much armour in an arena before. Good crowd of friendly people with plenty to look at. Made a couple of ferret buddies and can't wait to get mine up and running. Not long to go now as got the lights working at the weekend.
  8. Not sure about the exhibitors as we just went for the show. We are not sellers just the public. I think the trouble is that the show ground and parking is sited in a place where it could be difficult to gain access to any other parking areas, meaning making other entrances to fields to get the vehicles off the road safely. The locals must have a nightmare trying to get from place to place when the show is on.
  9. We went last year but booked up early for camping and got there for the Friday night, and we were amazed at how the parking areas/fields had filled up in the space of us getting up on the Sat. morning at about 7.30am. By 8.30 to 9.00am our field was full. Will be doing the same next year, it was so much easier booking in advance and getting there for the Friday, took us about 4hrs form were we live in Newmarket Suffolk.
  10. Sounds to be a good show so will make an early start on the Saturday, hope to see some new faces there off the forum. Made some great buddies last week at the YWE. Thanks for the info chaps, Regards Steve.
  11. Hi Howard and welcome to the forum. Nice to see another ferret owner who has been bitten by the bug. Where are you and what is your ferrets military reg. Looking at my Contract sheets, yours could have been one of 67 made in 1963 starting with 18EA01 up to 18EA67. Is your reg. one of these. Regards Steve.
  12. Has anyone been or going to Dunchurch this year. I am thinking of going but would like a little background on the venue as its about 2hrs drive and don't want to get all that way to be disappointed. Had a great long weekend at the YWE show, and made some truly fantastic friends there. Its great to put the faces to the names from this forum. Found some ferret buddy's.
  13. Well I recently bought this SMG from 'Spandaumilitariashop.com' for £197. + P&P. about 3 to 4 weeks ago. Was very happy when it dropped through my door to see that it could still be field stripped.
  14. Never heard of a 25panda field gun. I reckon its a typing error and should read 25 Pounder field gun. But there again, there were some weird and wonderful inventions floating around back then. I bet if someone had been standing near the beach when they first tried the bouncing bomb out, there'd of thought 'what the bloody hell is that'. lol.
  15. This is one of my SLR's, my favourite and also the Bren which will both be for my ferret.
  16. Hi all, not sure if this post will be allowed but can't see why not but had to share. Just a quick post with regards to the EU deac law. This little baby was waiting for me when I got home from work yesterday, very pleased with it and goes to show that the law so far is not totally active here yet. The site is well know for all types of Militaria and looks to have no intention of stopping the sale of their deac's.
  17. I must say I prefer the original design to its new shape.
  18. Yes I have taken them off to free them but the square post is inset, meaning the plate where the catch bolts to the engine cover is level with the top of the square post. Hope you have better luck with freeing yours off Vince. It has taken me about 3 days of soaking in AC90 and applying heat to get them free enough to turn by hand, by turning them from the locking lug. At the moment all 4 are soaking in very thin oil ready to be bolted back on. I shall defo be keeping them well oiled from now on.
  19. Cheers Vince, will have to give that a shot. Have noticed that the square on the catches are a bit out of shape as though they have been hit with maybe a hammer and the edges are burred over. Not a lot of room to get a file in to reshape them.
  20. Absolutely priceless, your 'Borat' is very good, will have to take note for future reference.
  21. Hi Richard, yes some one by the name of Bill has just been in touch to tell he will be back on Thursday. Cheers Steve.
  22. Hi Clive, the key I am looking for is a square one, but it is a key with the square inside much the same as what a socket end looks like which connects to the ratchet end, hope you understand what I mean. It's the best way I can describe it.
  23. Hi again, anyone have or know where I may be able to get hold of the box spanner/key for the engine cover catches on a ferret. I have emailed Mr Bannister and waiting for a reply but thought I would ask here as well. Cheers Steve.
  24. Agree with you totally. They do just appear it seems when it is anything to do with what the UK says. We need to get back to what we want. That is OUR right and no one else's.
