  1. Thanks Richard - that's clearly more than I've been doing. I think I might have been lucky so far, but will fill up through the other filler points before driving it again. When the rain stops I'll go and take a look. Howard
  2. Can you clarify something for me please. Since owning my Ferret (over a year ago), I have filled the hub up to the 10 o'clock / 2 o'clock position, believing this finds its way all through the assembly to the bevel boxes? This thread suggests not, given the seal Malcolm is referring to is there to prevent the oil flowing. Nothing's gone bang yet. I did fill the left front bevel box directly once, given it's the only one that's accessible, but the others are well buried. If the hub filler isn't sufficient for the whole assembly, what other filler points do owners use? In the manual there seem to be a few of them in each assembly, but all hidden to some extent - nothing as readily accessible as the hub filler. Thanks, Howard
  3. I hope to get there tomorrow morning in the Ferret. Weather didn't look too good today.
  4. I took the ferret to the local tyre maintenance fitters today. They didn't seem too worried about the cracks in the tyre rubber. The strength is in the plies.
  5. Having taken a closer look at my new (but old stock) tyres, I can see signs of cracking on two of them - see photo. Is this something to worry about? Are these tyres already shot? I'm not one for driving fast or over rough terrain, but as you say, these tyres still have to support a hefty weight even standing still. I notice from a much earlier thread and seeing other Ferrets that there are alternatives available, but nobody seems convinced they're good enough. Again, authentic is good, but safety is better - if alternatives are safer. I'd welcome other owners' thoughts (and I suppose the same applies to other ageing vehicles, not just Ferrets). Thanks, Howard
  6. Are these Ferret tyres on eBay here?
  7. Same thing happened to me but I did get an e-mail later confirming I'm booked in - so it's probably OK. I will be there with my Ferret.
  8. Hello Jim, Well spotted! It started life as Mk 1/2, but the previous owner converted it to a Mk1. I live near Rugby. Howard
  9. Hello Steve. The military reg is 01EA63, hull number 3249.2.63, so I guess that's number 3249, February 1963. Looking at the photocopy of its history card, the contract number is FV506, "DIS" (?) date July 1963. But its first allocation to a unit seems to be June 1967 - 45 Med Regt RA, BAOR. Either there's a gap in its record, or maybe new vehicles were kept in storage until issued? 4 years seems a long time for it to be doing nothing. Howard
  10. Good Evening all, Thank you for allowing me to join the forum. I bought a 1963 Mk1 Ferret just over a year ago. I'm having great fun keeping it going, and recreating what I remember of these vehicles from my youth when my father was attached to 4RTR in Hohne. Lots of good stuff on this forum which has been very useful so far - thank you! Howard.
