  1. Thanks for the info Clive, anyone know where I can get the flat type covers. lol.
  2. Hoping some one here can be of help. I am looking for 6 smoke discharger cover caps for my ferret. Would like the coned shaped ones as opposed to the flat type. Thanks Steve,
  3. Well today I managed to get my ferret turning over through the starter switch. Wizzes over like a goodin, so nice to hear it turning over as it was sized when I got the ferret. The 'Main Indicator' light comes on while cranking so I have power to the dash switch board. No light on the speedo, RPM dash board I think this could be to do with the wiring connections. Now I need a full set of interior bulbs, both dash board sets and the 2 'Left and Right' interior lights. Anybody know where I can source all of these from or is it Bannisters. Are the external bulbs the same as a set for a 24v landy. Plugs are on order with loads of other stuff, next problem I think will be the fuel lift pump. Have managed to clean the hull plate up, any help as to the year. According to the 'contracts detail sheets' that came with the ferret, it has mine as; CONTRACT. 6/FV4267 TYPE. FV701C Mk. 1 YEAR. 1951 QTY. 592 HULL. 7-599 REGISTRATION. 32BA81 - 38BA73 My reg. is 33BA93 so looks to be right although someone has my hull No. down as 118. Can anyone tell me what the hull plate refers to please. Many thanks Steve.

  5. Hi Terry, I had the same problem. In the end I took the water pump pulley off, put both belts on but can only get them onto the first 2 grooves. Then with a block of wood between the crank shaft pulley and water pump pulley gently lifted the water pump up to align the holes and screwed the pulley back on. Took me about 25mins. But saying that I did not have the rad and cowling in the way. Tried all morning to do it the way you have been trying and got fed up. I could not get the generator to push all the way back to the block as the ignition filter unit is in the way and would be a pain to try and take it off. If this was out of the way then I think the belts would have gone over the pulley's a lot easier with out the hassle It has been. I was lucky because I have not had to deal with trying to do this with the rad etc in the way. Best of luck. Regards Steve.
  6. Thanks for putting me right, I know the 'thing' you are on about it's situated next to the Gen. Panel in front of the fuel tank. Cheers Steve.
  7. Just came across this tread and very impressed with the way you guys make stuff up to do certain jobs. Steve.
  8. Hi there, welcome to the forum. Some pictures would be nice to see, if they are looking good I may want a 30cal. for my ferret. Regards Steve.
  9. Hi there and welcome to the forum. What part of this big wide world are you from? Looks like you have a very impressive collection of vehicles there, please show more. Regards Steve.
  10. Thanks buddy's that's a great help and I can now look at what may be the problem. I have a spare generator reg. box so will strip that one down to have a look. If OK I'll just switch them over. Hi Ian, yes we did meet up over at Adrian's over Xmas and enjoyed our chat. Thanks for searching out the drawing, I have a genuine 1969 'User Handbook' for the ferret with this drawing in but unlike when I was a mechanic years back working on Ford Cortina's, Escourt's Vauxhall Vivas and alike, corrrr takes me back lol. Wiring at least had a colour coding so when a cable went in to the harness at one end and came out the other it was easy to trace unlike the military which just have the little yellow sleeve on the end of the cable, most of which have worn away. Ah the joy of it all.
  11. Hi and thanks for your replies, I am just trying to get the engine turning over at the moment with out starting it, plugs are out. Bought a couple of 60amh batteries to see if she would turn over but no joy. Are there any fuses that may have an effect on the starting of the engine, would they be in the generator box. I'm thinking that there may be a cable/wire not connected or broken somewhere. Haven't looked into it in to much depth yet but thought if someone who had a better knowledge of the ferret would sort it a dam sight quicker than me who is just grabbing at straws at the mo. I have managed to get most of the wiring sorted, there are a few wires that are left with no I.D. tags on them but I think these are more than likely to do with the lighting circuit. Cheers Steve.
  12. Hello out there, is there anyone who lives near to Newmarket CB8 0EQ who could pop by and give me a hand for a day to sort out a bit of wiring on my ferret please, quite willing to pay someone for their trouble. PM me if you can be of any help. Many thanks Steve.
  13. Hiya Eddie and welcome to the forum. Steve.
  14. Hi and welcome to the forum from GB. Hope you enjoy the forum. Regards Steve.
  15. Hi Andy and welcome. Congratulations on your 25yrs service, well done.
  16. Hi and welcome to this forum which will be a great help to you in your restoration and a hindrance to it as well. lol. I only popped on my laptop to check my emails, 1 and 1/2 hours later I'm still looking at threads on this site.
  17. I will most likely have the same issue with mine now that I've put the engine back. Being in the building trade, I build a lot of fire places and use fire rope for a gasket between the cast iron fire surround and the fire back. This comes in a variety of thicknesses. I will be trying this out with some fire cement and if it works OK will let all know.
  18. Cheers Terry your engine and bay looks like mine. A been there sort of look. I should be able to make up a support from the photos. Many thanks Steve.
  19. Hi Malcolm that would be great. Let me know what else you may want to shift with regards to ferret bits. Many thanks Steve.
  20. Hi Terry, thanks for the picture. Looks like I am going to have to make something up similar to that bracket. I have an idea for the brow pads and will let you know how they come out. Nice looking engine and bay, is it yours. All the best Steve
  21. Why the bloody hell don't the twats in the EU take a leaf out of our book and make every one comply to our deac laws. I have quite a few rifles and pistols, all are new deac and there is no possible way any of them can be made to fire a live round. My 3 Lee Enfield's have a grind out from the breach area right up the barrel to just short of the woods, now there is no way you could ever re-weld and re- rifle the barrel. Why do we always have to tow the bloody line when others don't,:banghead:makes my blood boil. Lets get the F**k out of the EU and make this country great again. :goodidea: or what.
  22. Hi all, can anyone point me in the right direction with regards to some replacement brow band strips for the hatches on a ferret. Is there a substitute I can use. Mine have gone all hard and crumbly, and they just look yuk. Also has anyone got a photo of the piece of metal that supports the oil cooler. Looks like there should be something from the rad cowling or somewhere there across to the rear wheel arch support bar/tube. Getting close to seeing if she will fire up, getting impatient too. :drive:
  23. I would use the 2 nearest the engine, figure that way there is less stress on the shafts (bearings)to the pully and generator. Steve.
  24. Thanks Richard, does look like they will fit now I have managed to free off the adjuster a bit more. The old belts that must have been on it before I got the ferret must have been stretched quite a bit as the adjuster was at about half way. As you say, this will have to be taken right back to its full stop and even then looks as if its going to be tight. The manual says the slack is at 1" on the vertical between crank shaft pully & water pump pully. Going to have to take off the ign. coil to get to the adjuster a bit better as the thread is quite rusty. Oh yes, and shall watch my knuckles. Cheers Steve.:thanx:
