  1. Got to the show at about 7-30pm Friday night. We parked up and walked across to get the lay of the land. Friday night absolutely hammered it down, Saturday not bad but what a day on Sunday. The show was great, our first time and will be going again next year. Met up with a great set of blokes with a 'jimmy' and a 'hellcat'. Made some great friends and hope to see them again soon. Saturday night when most of the public were tucked up in bed, the reality of the show kicked in with all the re-enactors at the beer tent and you just felt like you were back in time. Great time with some great memories.
  2. Which squadron would that be from.
  3. Anyone know which fv vehicle this switch box comes from. Many thanks Steve.
  4. Hi all, just recently bought my first ferret from Vince Aka 'Grasshopper' form the forum, nice guy and very helpful. Was hoping to get on it today but the heavens have opened and its p*****g down. Can not get it in my garage at the mo because of my series 3 109 Landy is in there. I have had a go at the oil cooler and that's com up pretty good, just need to get it ready for painting. Reg. No. 33 BA 93 hull No.119 here are some pic's.Shame about the plate being cut down. Why would someone do this.
  5. Agree with everyone above. It's was a piece of kit that was made to serve a purpose, getting someone from A to B not turning up on the field of conflict and thinking 'god look at the state of that vehicle, don't they ever think cleaning it. How embarrassing'. As said, so long as the vehicle is not left to rust away, the scruffier the better.
  6. Loving your restoration CaptMax. Can't seem to get started on mine, can't find the time. Have done a couple of things like the oil cooler, saw yours and thought I would give it a go. Come out pretty good. Will have to get some pic's on. But you seem to have all the gear for the resto. which must make it easier. Keep up the good work, gives me some inspiration. Steve.
  7. Hi, yes me and the wife going down Friday after work to avoid the rush on Saturday. First time for us, wife going as a land army girl as her mum was one. I have fished out one of my battle dress tunics to the Royal Engineers to get in the mood. Hope the weather holds out for the show. You wont be able to miss our little van in the car park, as its called the 'Mystery Machine' from the show Scooby Doo. The kids love it, come to think of so do the parents. Really looking forward to it. Steve.
  8. Cheers Mike, it is amazing the amount of knowledge you guys have on the forum. I myself am new to the ferret with regards to the restoration of them. I have driven them many years ago when in the TA. just want to get in and drive it but I know if I am going to restore it properly its going to take time, something I don't have a lot of at the moment. The ferret I bought was from Vince aka 'Grasshopper' from the site. Great guy and full of help.
  9. Hi, I must say I like the 'To hell & back' look.
  10. Hi Mike, just had a butchers at the 2 plates on my ferret and both front & rear match the ones in the photos. Many thanks Steve.
  11. Hi Andy and welcome to the site. You will find a great wealth of knowledge from the guys on this site. Hope to see some pics soon. My passion is 'Ferrets' just bought one from a guy off this site. Now the fun starts. Lucky you with the wife, mines not to bad as her farther was a driver in the RAF out in the Middle East & her mother was in the Land Army so good connection to all things military. Enjoy the site. Steve.
  12. Cheers, sounds like a plan. will defo give it a go. BTW on top of my ferret I have 2 plates, both loosely bolted on. One is the same as in the photos, the other is narrower. Large one to the front the others at the rear. ???
  13. This is the mount I have that is fitted to my Bren, so I need the mount that fits onto my ferret. Can you buy from anywhere. Cheers Steve.
  14. Helps a lot, my mount has the large dia. bottom spigot. So although it's fitting my Bren nicely it's not the correct one for the Bren. Best I upload a picture. Make life easier. Cheers Steve.
  15. Hi Chris, Mine has the infill plate to the top as on the second picture but not the mount. Have you seen these for sale anywhere otherwise I think I may be able to get one made now I've seen a photo. Cheers Steve.
  16. Anyone got an idea as to what sort of mount is used on the Mk1 ferret with regards to the Bren. I have the mount that the Bren sit's in but need to know what the bracket/mount is that fixes to the front top of the ferret. I can not find any info on this part in any of the manuals. Even a diagram to get some idea to make one would be of help.
  17. Wow, he must be quite a character. Larger than life, would love to meet him.
  18. I have mixed feelings on the show. On the hand I like it because of the items that come up on the show that I would otherwise not be able to see. On the other it's getting past Bruce's accent, I originate from south London and have been around quite a bit of it. Is this really his way or is it just a show for the camera's. Just seems to put on to me. Would also like to know exactly long some of these restorations take. But the show does highlight some truly fascinating stuff.
  19. Looking at these photos brings it home to me as a collector of everything military, just how much stuff was produced during WW2, and I know what I see here is just a fraction of what was produced. It is mind blowing.
  20. Hi Vince, yes the ferret got home safe and sound. I have started to free off various bit & pieces. The oil cooler has come up great after taking it on holiday with me. (Still on the hols.) Will be uploading some pic's soon. I have started to remove all the internal bits and bobs so I can give the inside a good going over. I'm bit impatient and just want to get in and start it up & away but that's a long way off as I want to do the job properly. No doubt I shall be on here asking for advice from you all soon, mainly to do with the wiring, looks like my worst nightmare. Having been a mechanic many years ago, I was brought up on the old plugs & points so the engine side of things will be a doddle. Watch this space, the sage continues of 33BA93 hull No. 118
  21. Looked like a great show. Shame my work commitments stop me from going to these shows. Have just bought a Mk1 ferret with the view to restore it to it's original unit markings from when it joined service. Will be making time to do this and when finished hope to take it to some shows. Heard that the W&P was it's final year or is someone going to keep it going as the revenue it makes must be phenomenal. It's also a part of life for all the collectors and re-enactors, hope it continues. Steve.
  22. Hi all, took the plunge and purchased the ferret in question on my original post. Now need your help to find a canvas canopy for it, or can someone point me in the right direction with regards to a 'pattern' for the canopy so I can get one made. Cheers Steve.
  23. Hi Steve, thanks for the info. Not far away then, could well be in touch with you for some help with the restoration. This one is 95% complete just tat the engine is said to be sized due to it standing. The seller has said he has been putting diesel down the bores so would like to think it will free off. Seeing it tomorrow. Been after one for some time now and this was too good a pass up. Will keep you informed. Have you got a ferret yourself? All the best Steve.
  24. May have purchased a Mk1 Ferret :cheesy: so will need to get it from near Redhill in surrey to Newmarket Suffolk. Any body willing or know of anyone who could be of help. Its a non runner so will need a winch. Cheers Steve.
  25. Hi and many thanks for your message. I am looking at a couple in the coming week but if no good I may take you up on your offer. Trouble being import costs could be quite high and my budget it a little limited. Regards Steve.
